The feud between Mariah Carey and Marshall “Eminem” Mathers III began in the early 2000s and garnered significant media attention throughout the decade. Both artists dissed each other, making claims and counterclaims that led to numerous speculations.
After almost two and a half decades, radio exec and record producer Damion “Damizza” Young has revealed the incident that might have ignited the beef between Em and Carey. Damizza appeared on the TFU podcast, claiming that Slim Shady offered the Daydream singer-songwriter a role in 8 Mile.
Mariah Carey, now 56, was allegedly asked to play the mother of the character portrayed by Eminem, who is just four years her junior. The role eventually went to Kim Basinger. Damizza recounted that the singer was also working on another movie, The Glitter, when the offer came up. He said,
“I go to Mariah and I say ‘Look Eminem wants to meet you.’ And she's like, ‘No.’ Like, ‘I'm not getting up in that.’ And I said ‘Well there's this movie.’ She goes, ‘What's his number?’”
Damizza recalled that he reached out to Eminem to clear out everything before setting up his call with Mariah Carey. The record producer shared that he was concerned, primarily due to the rapper’s feud with Christina Aguilera. He recounted,
“I just did all this for you [Eminem], just do me this favor and he's like ‘No I genuinely want her in the movie.’ And I'm like ‘Okay cool.’ So I get her on three-way, put him on the phone and the first thing out of his mouth is ‘I want you to play my mother.’ So, her insecurities kicked in big time.”
Damion Young went on to make another big claim on the relationship between the Butterfly singer and the Lose Yourself rapper.
Mariah Carey’s former producer, Damizza, claimed that she allegedly dated Eminem
Damion “Damizza” Young made some big claims during his recent appearance on the TFU podcast. The radio executive, who collaborated with Mariah Carey on multiple projects as a producer, connected her with Eminem when she was offered a role in 8 Mile. While the singer-songwriter didn’t play the role of the protagonist’s mother, Damizza claimed,
“So then it was her chasing him, it wasn't him chasing her.”
Young recalled that he was accompanying Carey on her trip back to Los Angeles from New York after she appeared on Total Request Live (TRL). According to Damizza,
“She's like, "Hey, we're going to stop off in Detroit." And I said, ‘We?’ So the next thing I know we're at Eminem's house, you know, in Detroit and they disappear, you know what I mean.”
Young claimed,
“So, the second they went in his room, literally, I said, ‘I'm going back to LA.’ You know what I mean, like, there's no point in me being here. This went from business [to] y'all f***ing. [...] So I went back to LA and I just washed my hands of it. I'm like, ‘This is going to hell in a hand basket i don't want an issue with M i don't want an issue with Dre i don't want an issue with Mariah i need to stick to the f***ing radio.’”
Damizza recalled the alleged fallout between Carey and Eminem, including his work on half of The Glitter album, the end of his professional relationship with the singer, and more. While Mariah Carey maintained that she never dated Slim Shady, the rapper made other claims. He dissed the singer in Superman and When the Music Stops.
