Nicki Minaj is getting candid about what kind of music she wants to put out in the world.

The Anaconda rapper, who graced the cover of Vogue Italia this Tuesday, May 27, spoke to the outlet about why she has yet to release an album. Her last project, Pink Friday 2, dropped in 2023, and she even went on tour in support of the same, with no new music in sight.

“I’ve got a bunch of really strong tracks, but I don’t want to rush,” she explained. “I want the record to mean something, both for the fans and for me. I’ll never be one of those people who puts out songs just to put them out. I love music. I respect it.”

During the same interview, Nicki Minaj reflected on what it was like touring, noting that she wants to "experience it all again, as soon as possible. For me, and for the Barbz.”

While the Grammy-nominated singer has yet to reveal who to expect as a collaborator on her forthcoming venture, she did open up about some of her favorite up-and-coming artists at the moment.

“Sabrina Carpenter. I didn’t know she’d been around that long when I started listening to her. A breath of fresh air. I like Billie Eilish. I love everything she does. Then there’s a dancehall artist… his name’s Skeng," she said.

Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday 2 marked her first full-length release in five years, and it debuted at the dominating position on the Billboard 200, featuring hits like Everybody with Lil Uzi Vert and FTCU.

Elsewhere in the interview, she also got candid about why she chose to have kids when she did, revealing that she wanted to build a name for herself before she could do that.

"As a woman, I put off becoming a mother. A lot of women in the industry, especially older than me, haven't had children. Some don't regret it, but others do. I put it off. And then I didn't go to every Thanksgiving, Christmas or birthday party because I had to work to support my family," she said. "I think the price was not having a 'normal' life. Today, things are different, because I can give my son what I couldn't have, but there are things I would like to ensure for him and that I have to figure out how to give him. When we go out, for example, I have to worry about someone taking pictures of him. So every day I have to decide: is it more important to go for a walk with my son or to avoid him being photographed?"

At the time of writing, further details about Nicki Minaj's next album remain unclear. It seems like fans will have to wait until then.
