Renowned musician Tim Myers, one of the founders of the pop-rock band OneRepublic, will be entering politics as he announced that he would be running for California Lieutenant Governor as a Democrat. The 40-year-old singer-songwriter and record producer joined OneRepublic as their bassist in 2002 and continued to be a part of the band until 2007.

Tim Myers took to his official website and released a statement, in which his campaign stated that he is a third-generation Californian. Myers broke the big news of his entry into politics on July 9, 2025. According to Round Hill Music Royalty Partners, Myers left OneRepublic because he wanted to invest all his time and energy into his solo music career.

Tim Myers, who worked with OneRepublic on their studio album Dreaming Out Loud, shared a campaign video on his official website in which he criticized President Donald Trump's administration for not being able to effectively deal with the devastating Palisades and Eaton wildfires that destroyed a portion of Los Angeles County in January 2025. In his campaign video, Myers also said:

"You know what the real disgrace is? A president who insults 40 million Americans and is doing everything he can to harm a state with the fourth-largest economy in the world. Meanwhile, our own state leaders have done almost nothing to fight back."

He continued:

"That's why I'm running for Lieutenant Governor to help protect and rebuild the California we love, to fight for working families, for kids priced out of college, for seniors struggling to get by, for every Californian who feels forgotten."

While talking about what motivated him to run for office, Tim Myers further added:

"The status quo from career politicians just isn't cutting it. They've either sold out, stayed silent, or cash checks from corporate lobbyists. Well, I'm not staying silent. I'm not a career politician. I'm a dad, a husband, a builder, and I'm stepping up because you don't choose the time, the time chooses you."

Myers' lieutenant governor campaign draws media attention

Myers took to his Instagram on July 9, 2025, and shared a carousel post with a picture of himself and what looked like screenshots of different media outlets covering his lieutenant governor campaign. He captioned the post:

"Since launch, my Lieutenant Governor campaign has been covered by The OC Register, The Hill, Sacramento Bee, Fox, and more. And the momentum is still building."

He continued and wrote:

"People across California are speaking up — and saying what we all know: it’s time for change. The status quo in our politics isn’t working. Let’s write a new song for California — together!
