Skepta is responding to Joyner Lucas' challenge to a UK vs. US rap battle.
On July 3, the London-born rapper went viral for his claims that UK rappers would come out on top in a rap battle against those from the US.
“I wanna clash an American rapper,” Skepta penned on X. “Finally get this UK/US rap debate sorted.”
Joyner Lucas, who caught wind of the challenge, has since volunteered himself for the post.
"The moment I've been waiting for... say the word, Joyner Lucas vs Skepta," he penned.
The British crooner, however, was less than thrilled at the prospect.
"I respect the fact that you stood up and said something, you get me? But this is just another example of the ignorance. If you was from the UK, Joyner, quiet bro," he said in response. “When I make my diss track for [A$AP] Rocky, I’m gonna give you 2 bars... I didn’t do all the work I did just for Joyner Lucas to be saying my name.”
Skepta suggests a showdown between himself and ASAP Rocky would be "fire":
In his July 3 suggestion, Skepta also touted an array of other battles, including Chip versus Kendrick Lamar, Dave versus Lil Wayne, Ghetts versus Eminem, and Teflon against Meek Mill. He then suggested Blade Brown go against Pusha T, Queenie against Megan Thee Stallion, and Central Cee against Jack Harlow.
While he suggested that Lancey Foux go against Travis Scott and JME battle Tyler, The Creator, he pitched A$AP Rocky for himself, referring to their potential showdown as “fire.”
He then asserted that this showdown would be nothing short of respectful:
“No violence, just bars, punchlines and counteractions,” he iterated. “anybody clashing today going dub for dub, reply for reply is a style from dancehall… the best reply wins. Simple.”
When someone speculated that he may be high on something for touting such a rap battle, he clarified:
"When asking what I’m high on, think psychedelic not coke. I’m an Y2K London shotta, you didn’t sniff it you sold it, even my friends that sniff know not to do that around me cos I’ll look at them sideways. Take your coke jokes elsewhere lol."
As of this writing, there are no official rap battles in the mix.
Skepta, however, has been making waves in his own right in the fashion industry. Just days ago, Puma announced a collaboration with him in what has been dubbed "their coldest drop yet." It features apparel and accessories that "fuse PUMA’s performance roots with a luxury techwear edge."
The collaboration drops this July 5, 2025.
