Rapper, style icon, and soon-to-be MET Gala co-chair A$AP Rocky talked in a recent episode of The Run-Through Podcast with Variety about stealing Rihanna's clothes and how he wants to be a "catalyst" for daring men by breaking gender norms.
In the podcast, while with Chioma and Leah Faye Cooper, A$AP Rocky talks about how he wants to break gender norms in fashion. He refers to the invisible barrier that society created, adding a certain identity or gender to a garment or accessory, and limiting the full prowess of fashion.
“I want to represent, I want to be a catalyst for daring men. I don't know who drew the line between femininity or just being feminine and masculinity, excuse me. I don't know who drew that line but I don't see any barriers for me. It's not fair that, like, my girl can just go in my closet and can just take anything from it and wear it. That goes both ways.
A$AP Rocky further talks about how him and his partner Rihanna often "steal" clothes from each other.
She has pieces she don't know that I actually stole, you get what I'm saying? She does it to me all the time. Sometimes you just see her in an interview or a paparazzi photo like, ‘Wait, there goes my Miu Miu jacket!’What the f*ck? I was looking for that since 2021!'"
A$AP Rocky on Fatherhood and Creativity
A$AP Rocky further talks about how his children, 2-year-old RZA Athelston Mayers and 21-month-old Riot Rose Mayers, have helped his artistic process and also reflected on his own father and their relationship.
"Being a father is my creative process now because I just embodied it as a whole. I never really had a role model or just an iconic figure, ... and I guess I'm that for people, and I didn't purposely try to do that, but I take it as a badge of honor. I'm so flattered and, you know, just being me that it can inspire people to actually do something that is considered good being a present active father."
A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Athelaston Mayers, has always proudly flaunted his fashion choices and iconic looks, from the red carpet to the MET gala. The singer, is also the one of the chairs of this year's upcoming MET Gala, along with Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton and Pharrell Williams. Not only that, the artist has another opportunity to showcase his creativity when he was named Ray-Ban’s First-Ever Creative Director this year in February.
