Dave Mason has been cemented for his contribution to music, in large part thanks to his induction as a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. In a sad turn of events, the Traffic co-founder recently cancelled all 2025 tour dates due to “ongoing health issues,” an official press release mentioned.

“With deep regret, I must cancel all tour dates for 2025 due to ongoing health issues stemming from the infection I had in March. I’m incredibly grateful to my team of doctors—this has been challenging territory, to say the least,” the press release stated, per People.

Mason initially cancelled his plans for a fall 2024 tour after he was diagnosed with a “serious heart condition” during a routine check-up.

According to the June 3 press release, at some point during his recovery, he contracted an infection and earnestly hoped to push through it before his condition worsened and his doctors shut his tour plans down.

Mason also went out of his way to thank his entire support system for their contributions during this difficult time.

“Your kind messages have lifted my spirits more than words can express. Recovery is a long road. My love for you all runs deep,” he wrote, and added: “God bless.”

Dave Mason’s illustrious career

Dave Mason hails from Worcester, England, and his career began at an early age. By 15 he had already formed two bands, until he joined Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Chris Wood to form Traffic three years later. Dave’s self written Feelin’ Alright? is an example of one of his greatest achievements as it has been covered by several influential artists over the years, eventually even becoming Joe Cocker’s signature song.

Dave Mason was also responsible for penning Delaney and Bonnie’s Only You Know and I Know and enjoyed some commercial success of his own with We Just Disagree. Mason released his 21st studio album, A Shade of Blues, in March. The project highlights his blues roots, and has contributions from legends Joe Bonamassa and Michael McDonald. Last year, Mason published his memoir, Only You Know & I Know.

In an illustrious career Dave Mason has had the opportunity to play alongside legends including Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Graham Nash, and Stephen Stills. He was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 as a member of Traffic, and his legacy will live forever, immortalized among his rock icon contemporaries.
