Tate McRae had heads turning when she showed up at the MTV VMAs on Sunday.
The singer, 22, took to the red carpet at the UBS Arena in New York in a custom gown designed by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, People Magazine has reported. The white, sheer, Grecian-style gown featured a low neckline and see-through fabric draped over her white, cheeky panties.
She kept her accessories to a minimum with some drop earrings, while she opted for matching white heels by Stuart Weitzman to complete the look. She left her blonde tresses down, and her makeup was smoky.
At one point during MTV's preshow broadcast, Tate McRae revealed that her ensemble was inspired by
"scorned woman inspired by medusa... turning [boys] into stone."

Cosmopolitan has reported that, for Sabrina Carpenter’s official after-party, Tate McRae opted for another sheer look when she opted for some black tights, matching underwear, and a sheer halter top. She topped off the look with some oversized black sunglasses and another pair of black, pointed-toe heels by Stuart Weitzman.
The songstress was nominated for four VMAs this year, including Best Pop Artist and Song of the Year for "Sports Car." Speaking about her win on the red carpet, she said, according to the outlet,
"I'm so excited, I mean this is crazy. I just feel very blessed and honored to be here, so excited. The vibes are good."
Tate McRae was also nominated for Best Pop Artist and Best Editing and Best Visual Effects for her music video for "Just Keep Watching." Speaking with Entertainment Tonight about her performance during the night, she noted,
"It's such an honor, these nights are just electric. You get to see all your friends, you get to watch the best performances, it's very iconic, very fun."
As for her ongoing Miss Possessive Tour, which recently saw her perform three shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City, she said:
"It's been magical, it's my first ever arena tour, it's been such a joy, we have 36 shows left so we're barely making a dent. I'm exhausted, we literally did a show last night in Philedelphia, but we're getting through it."
This year's MTV VMAs mark Tate McRae's third appearance, as she last showed up at the awards show in 2021 and 2022. Performing at the show was a milestone for her, as she opened up about the same during a May 2025 profile for Paper:
“I try to create anything that makes me feel fresh and inspired and new whenever I’m creating. As a dancer, you live a million lives. I went from being a ballerina to being hip-hop to being a contemporary dancer to doing ballroom at one point. And as a singer, it’s been fun to see how far I can take things and push things that make me feel excited,” she explained.
Tate continued,
“That’s the blessing of my job. Now I can take things that I’m really passionate about, and I’m able to have really incredible resources and dancers and choreographers and directors that I work with that can push me in directions I didn’t know were possible. That’s what creates iconic things: really great people working together and being fully present and engaged on set and feeling the magic come. I strive to do something better than my last project or my last performance, and that’s the headspace I like to stay in.”
