Ethel Cain is weighing in on what she thinks are the perils of the internet.

The musician, whose legal name is Hayden Anhedönia, spoke to Cosmopolitan for an article that came out on Wednesday, October 1. Known for her recent album Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You, the singer-songwriter opened up about why she's vehemently against using the internet:

"I’m anti-internet. I think that the internet is a breeding ground for all of the worst parts of human nature. I think that the internet will be the death of society and human beings as a species. You can quote me on that when we’re all dead," she remarked.

Ethel Cain has long been accused of inappropriate behavior after old posts of hers resurfaced. In her interview with Cosmopolitan, however, she alleged that the posts were a smear campaign.

"It does make me worried to know that people can hate you that bad, and I wonder where it ends. This smear campaign has been attempted for years but never gained traction. But now that there are more eyes on me, it did gain traction and there are people that are willing to believe slander of that nature," she said.

She did concede to passing racist comments, noting that it is "a dark part of my life that I look back on." She said she just wanted to impress her friends at the time, which in hindsight, is "probably the most embarrassing thing" she did.

She was referring to the racist slurs she used in 2017 and 2018, mocking the Latinx community. She also reportedly cracked jokes at the expense of s*xual abuse and fat people. However, this past July, she issued a statement apologizing for her remarks, noting that they were supposed to be as “inflammatory and controversial as possible.”

In other news, the singer recently announced she would be adding extra dates for the UK and European leg of her forthcoming ‘Willoughby Tucker Forever’ tour. She reportedly kicks off performances this week, with the first being at Manchester’s O2 Apollo on Thursday, October 2. The Indie artist will then take to Glasgow, after which she has five headline shows at London’s Eventim Apollo.

She debuted her LP back in August, and it features her hit singles “Nettles” and “F**k Me Eyes”. Next summer, Ethel Cain will perform at Barcelona, Luxembourg City, Cologne, and Hamburg, among others.
