Shakira has been forced to temporarily cancel another live tour date. The Hips Don’t Lie singer’s long-awaited performance at the Alamodome in San Antonio, originally scheduled for June 13, has been postponed.
The delay of the show in San Antonio was caused by structural issues with the stage. The venue released a statement on their social media to announce the news. Shortly afterward, Shakira released a statement of her own to communicate the news to her fans. She was clearly disappointed that she could not follow through on her commitment to perform:
“I am so sad to inform you what I have been told: That due to a structural issue with a truss provided by this third-party company to support my stage, we are being forced to reschedule my sold out show in San Antonio originally planned for tonight, June 13.”
Shakira was originally set to perform at the Frost Bank Center on November 16, 2024, but announced a venue change to stadium settings “due to unprecedented fan demand.”
Shakira cancels San Antonio show, and other recent news
Prior to the current incident in San Antonio, similar issues were reported from Fenway Park in Boston and even Washington, D.C. The singer said in her statement,
"After a problem with a third-party structure in Boston, I personally demanded the addition of a new group of engineers and I have met directly with the company so that it could be thoroughly re-evaluated.”
The artist included a photo of the shoddy welding of her stage setup on her Instagram stories.
While the cancellation has undoubtedly upset her fans, she herself was clearly distressed about not being able to show up for the thousands of people who were looking forward to watching her put on a spectacle:
"To not be able to perform for you tonight deeply affects me and my fans in San Antonio. I am here, devestated and heartbroken.”
In response to the cancellation in San Antonio, Shakira has been forced to postpone her Sunday show in Houston to Tuesday. The plan is currently for Shakira to finish her run of Houston shows, while a solution to reschedule the San Antonio show remains in the works.
