Taylor Swift and fiancé Travis Kelce are reportedly opting against an appearance at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards this weekend.
The songstress, who is up for the ‘Artist of the Year’ award, will not be present at the event, scheduled for Sunday at the UBS Arena in New York, Page Six has confirmed. She will be competing against Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, and The Weeknd for the accolade.
Per E! News, Taylor Swift, who is gearing up to drop her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, on October 3, is tied with Beyoncé for the most VMAs ever awarded at 30. Should the former take home the Moon Person trophy this year, she will officially hold the title for the first time ever since the ceremony was born in 1984.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's commitments explored as pair opt out of this year's VMAs:
Elle Magazine has reported that Taylor Swift’s beau, Travis Kelce, will not be seen at the ceremony. The Kansas City Chiefs will be tackling the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil, tonight, September 5. As of this writing, it is unclear if Taylor Swift will be attending his game. The pair got engaged merely days ago.
Just last month, she made an appearance on his New Heights podcast, where she opened up about how she has been spending her time since her Eras Tour concluded in December 2024:
“It’s great because I’m getting my hobbies back,” she said. “When I was on tour, all I had the bandwidth for was, ‘What’s the acoustic mashup this week? How do I say welcome to the Eras Tour in Portuguese?’ That was the only thing taking up my brain space.”
She also said that she loves to paint and cook, though a new obsession has taken over this time:
"I have a different baking obsession every six months,” she continued. “Right now, we’re very deep in a sourdough obsession that has taken over my life.”
This year’s VMAs ceremony marks the first time she will be skipping it since 2021. In recent years, she’s had several noteworthy moments. Last year, she publicly acknowledged Travis Kelce as her boyfriend while accepting her trophy for Video of the Year for “Fortnite” with Post Malone.
“This video seems very sad when you watch it, but it was actually the most fun video to make,” Taylor said at the time, adding that between takes she could “always just hear someone cheering, like, ‘Whoo!’ from across the studio.” She continued, “That one person was my boyfriend, Travis.”
