Selena Gomez is getting sentimental about one of her early anthems.
During a recent appearance on the Therapuss podcast, the singer and actress reflected on her time leading the pop-rock band Selena Gomez & the Scene, and singled out one track in particular.
When asked by host Jake Shane if she has a favorite solo song, Selena Gomez answered:
"I guess, technically, 'Who Says.'"
Shane gasped and responded with:
"Seriously? Greatest."
Selena Gomez continued, detailing the 2011 hit that became a hallmark of her career.
“It’s the most powerful moment when I get to perform it. That’s honestly the only reason I would ever do a tour again… is if I could perform ‘Who Says’, like, 17 times.”
She added:
"But if you were to ask me, that is hands down my favorite."
Shane shared that, as a kid, he thought the song was a "banger," but listening to it while older hits harder. Gomez agreed, saying:
"It kind of cuts deep."
The uplifting message of "Who Says" has stayed with her over the years. The songstress recalled tearing up when she unexpectedly heard it while traveling abroad.
"One time, it came on in the radio about, like, three years ago somewhere overseas and I remember just sitting there, looking out the window, and I started tearing up."
The "Good for You" hitmaker went on:
"I was like, ‘Why the f**k am I tearing up to my own song?’ But it was because it was the little me who was there saying these really powerful messages that I still need to hear.”
The Only Murders in the Building actress, who hasn’t toured since 2016, admitted she’d likely adjust the key if she sang it today, joking that she’d have to “take it down an octave from each year I’ve sang it.”
She also floated the idea of a fresh studio version.
“I need to redo it. I should recut it.”
Released in March 2011, "Who Says" is a track off Selena Gomez's album When the Sun Goes Down.
Selena Gomez opens up about longstanding friendship with Taylor Swift: "We just stuck around for all the ups and downs"
The conversation also took a nostalgic turn when Selena Gomez discussed her longtime friendship with Taylor Swift, which began after both had endured breakups with the Jonas Brothers.
“She and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other. We became best friends, bonded over the breakup, as girls do. Then we just stuck around for all the ups and downs that came after, and here we are now 16 years later.”
Selena Gomez also revealed during the tell-all that the 2008 hit, "Fearless," was the first song Swift ever played for her before it was even released.
“I was in a hotel room, and I remember it vividly. It was just one of those songs that I instantly heard and thought, ‘This is one of the most beautiful songs ever.'”

The Wizards of Waverly Place star continued while Shane was in disbelief:
“It was so sweet. She was like, ‘OK, I just want to play you this song, but just, like, I don’t know. It’s going to be the first single, I think.’ Just hearing her say those little thoughts… She is a chameleon. She’s incredible.”
Gomez’s latest music venture is a joint album with fiancé Benny Blanco, I Said I Love You First, in May.
The couple is set to tie the knot in September.
