Demi Lovato, who recently announced the release of her upcoming album titled "It's Not That Deep," also revealed in a recent interview how her marriage to her husband, Jordan "Jutes" Lutes, has influenced her music. According to People Magazine, it was during her interview with Paper Magazine that she shared more about how the current chapter of her life influences her music, saying:
"I think it's really a reflection of where I'm at personally. I'm not in this place in my life where I need these huge emotional ballads to release some sort of deep emotional trauma I'm going through."
This new album is set to be Demi Lovato's ninth studio album, coming three years after the release of the eighth studio album, "Holy Fvck," which was released in 2022. The new album will see the "Tell Me You Love Me" singer return to her pop roots after the rock influences of her last album.
More from Demi Lovato's recent interview on how her relationship with her husband influenced the making of her upcoming album
In a September 16 interview with Paper Magazine, Demi Lovato described this chapter of her life as feeling significantly "lighter" compared to earlier periods. She shared that writing songs about heavy, intense topics no longer resonated with her after getting married. She said:
"I started writing songs like that, and they just weren't resonating ... heavy topics like that. I'm in a place in my life where my energy feels very light. I just got married. It was a learning curve for me to take what I've always known about music, which is write what you know now. I had to learn how to write what was new to me, and that's what this album is a reflection of. The tone of my life is lighter. I wanted a project that reflected that."
Demi Lovato married Jordan "Jutes" Lutes earlier this year in May after being in a relationship with the musician since 2022. The couple met while working on Demi Lovato's album and later began dating. In a 2024 interview with People Magazine, Demi Lovato had opened up about her relationship with her then fiancΓ©, saying:
"You know, I've waited my whole life for him and to have him be a part of this just makes it that much more sweet. It's very grounding to have a partner that is so supportive, so loving, so caring. And so, you know, it's very easy to stay centered with him because I just β I love him so much and he treats me so amazing."
In her interview with Paper Magazine, Lovato further talked about which lyrics from the album resonated with her the most, saying:
βI guess the lyric that resonates the most to me is, βItβs not that deep. And then the follow-up to that is, βUnless you want it to be.β So itβs like, some things are that deep. But for me personally, right now, this music is not that deep for me. Thatβs the energy I want to carry into this project with the music.
She further added:
"So it's like, some things are that deep. But for me personally, right now, this music is not that deep for me. That's the energy I want to carry into this project with the music. I just want to be happy. Thatβs what this is about for me."
Two singles from her upcoming album "It's Not That Deep" have already been released, and the full album is set to drop next month on October 24.
