Following her first performance in nearly two decades at the Today Show Plaza on Wednesday, July 23, Jessica Simpson opened up about her performance gone awry.
The pop star, 45, took to the show for a performance for the network's Citi Concert Series in New York City, where she sang some old and new hits, including her latest single, Fade, from her catalogue.
As reported by Page Six, at one point during her set, Jessica Simpson's corset dress slipped up, leaving a pink bra beneath it. Luckily, her long, blonde tresses and metallic jacket covered most of it up. In the interview that followed, however, she had fans cackling when she opened up about the wardrobe malfunction:
“How does it feel back on the stage, the first release in 15 years?” NBC correspondent Peter Alexander asked her, to which she replied, “It’s insane. And of course I had a malfunction here and everywhere, but it’s okay. I think my boobs stayed in, so it’s okay.”

Jessica Simpson performed on American Idol back in May, marking her first performance on stage in over a decade and a half. She performed alongside a former contestant named Josh King, though fans were not a fan of her performance, with some even referring to it as a “train wreck.”
A few days later, she confessed to Extra about the nerves she had been wracked with on stage:
“I can’t even tell you how long it’s been since I’ve been that nervous,” she said. “Like, I had to put hairspray on my feet to stand still, like, not that it actually keeps me put, but, like, my feet were sweating. I’m like, ‘My feet don’t sweat,’” Simpson admitted.
While she was a bit nervous for her Today performance, she did brush it off, as she told the outlet during her interview:
"Today it was like, ‘Okay, get out of your head. Get out of your head. Who cares if your shoes falls off? Who cares if you forget a lyric?' Honestly, it’s just about being able to get up there and feel vulnerable and that feels really beautiful."
Following an equally long hiatus from music, Jessica Simpson dropped the first part of her EP “Nashville Canyon, Part 1" back in March, with its sequel expected to drop this September 5. This also marks the first time she is returning to songwriting following her split from Eric Johnson. The two had been married for a decade and shared kids Maxwell, Ace, and Birdie.
"It was incredibly healing [to write these songs]," she said on Today. "I was in Nashville, it was a crazy time for, my life literally flipped upside down, and I really just had to focus on my purpose." She went on, "Trying to just inspire myself to get back up there, have the courage to do it in the face of heart break and the face of like life completely changing. Music saved my life, Nashville saved my life."
Back in January, she told Us Weekly of her divorce:
“Eric and I have been living separately, navigating a painful situation in our marriage. Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them.”
In her song Fade, Jessica Simpson seemingly alludes to the demise of her marriage, as some of the lyrics go:
“You’re as empty as your promise / Go sleep alone in the bed you made."
