Colombian pop star Karol G is joining forces with Ricky Martin and Anahí for her forthcoming album, Tropicoqueta.
The singer has sparked a wave of excitement online following the news of her collaboration with fellow Latin music icons, which she paired with a telenovela-esque video focused on the album's themes and nuances.
In the two-minute video based in Spanish, the songstress can be seen starring alongside Anahí, Itatí Cantoral, Gaby Spanic, Ninel Conde, and Azela Robinson as well. In the skit, Karol and Anahí are crazy about the same man: Ricky Martin, complete with a 90s ensemble and long tresses.
The women can be seen dueling over him when Cantoral intervenes with her legendary Soraya Montenegro phrase from Maria la del Barrio: “What are you doing? Don’t mess with my daughter, maldita lisiada!” This is when Conde puts an end to the fight by telling the latter,
“Mamacita, you’re still doing this? It’s been so many years, please get over it!”
At the end of the video, Spanic and Robinson are on the road in a red van, listening to a track from the forthcoming album, which goes as follows:
“The woman is iconic/ she has dreams/ she has goals."
Here's everything we know about Karol G's latest album
Karol G's new album comes out this Friday, June 20, and ahead of D-day, she has released the full tracklist of her fifth studio album. In a post announcing the same, she penned:
“Intense chapters, unexpected twists, endearing characters. This is the official Track Listing for this new story of my life! Each song has its own story. Each collaboration has its own reason.”
The album comprises 20 tracks, and it kicks off with La Reina Presenta, which translates to The Queen Presents. It ends with the title track. She will be collaborating with renowned Panamanian reggae plena artist Eddy Love for Dile Luna, as well as Mexican singer Marco Antonio Solís on Coleccionando Heridas.
Karol G is also teaming up with fellow Colombian crooner Greeicy for Amiga Mía, alongside French-Spanish reggae artist Manu Chao on Viajando Por El Mundo. She will be repeating a collaboration with Mariah Angeliq for FKN Movie.
As for track no. 13, it currently stands empty, though fans can head onto Google to search it up, only to find out they will be redirected to a clue that alludes to another collaboration with Feid, whom she worked with back in 2021 on FRIKI.
Alongside photos with her collaborators uploaded on Instagram, Karol G revealed that she first contacted Anahí for her album, and everything else worked itself out.
“How crazy!!! Nothing like having the opportunity to make a dream come true!!!” she penned in the caption. “You touched our lives with each of your roles. What energy on set, what laughter, the most fun shoot ever!!!! What an incredible time we had!! Thank you, queens, for saying yes! It’s an honor to be in the same room with you!”
Karol G's latest album is reportedly “going back to the roots, to the songs I grew up listening to, to the sounds that made me fall in love with music," according to La Bichota.
“Tropicoqueta is a little piece of us all,” she wrote in another post. “It started as a wish in August 2023,” she penned in Spanish. “Since then, I’ve been leaving you some clues along the way, and I can say that when I finished it, I did so with a heart full of the love I received in every country I visited…”
Karol G's album comes on the heels of the release of her newest single, Latina Foreva, which came out on May 22. It will also follow the success of Mañana Será Bonito, which earned her a Grammy and became the first album recorded completely in Spanish by a female artist to dominate the Billboard charts.
The album culminated in the singer touring the United States for the first time, and yet another feat: it became the highest-grossing Latin tour by a female artist in Boxscore history.
“Traveling the world with my last album, an album that gave me so much, I kept asking myself the same question: what’s the next step? … what’s next for me? I think it wasn’t about looking further, but rather looking deeper… deeper into myself, into who I really am, into the things I love, into everything that represents me… Going back to my roots, to the songs I grew up listening to, to the sounds that made me fall in love with music… staying in the place where I truly feel grown up because it represents not only who I am, but also those people who have given me the opportunity to be where I am today," Karol G continued in her post.
