Cosmic latte tears poured like a deluge across social media platforms as EXO’s Kai and Lay reunited for the “Wait on Me” dance challenge.
On Tuesday, May 13, the group’s main dancers delivered a slick, under-30-second performance for Kai’s latest track off his new mini-album of the same name.
Short as it was, the clip sent fans — affectionately called EXO-Ls/Eris — into overdrive. After all, it marked the first time in a while that the Chinese Mando-pop star officially appeared on EXO’s main account and shared the screen dancing alongside his co-member, Kai.
The reactions were full to bursting, and the emotions were palpable through the stream of comments on X (formerly Twitter).
“Yeahh I can't imagine what it will be like if you guys can actually make an OT9 comeback,” @Cinderellaexos_ wrote with images of crying memes.
“I LITERALLY SCREAMED AND CRIED WHEN I SAW THIS. IS IT TRUE THAT LATER WHEN THERE IS AN ALBUM, CONCERT, OR FANMEETING THERE WILL BE OT9? I HOPE SO, I REALLY MISS THEIR INTERACTIONS,” @miimubam gushed.
“Never thought i'd see the day where Lay and Kai dance together,” @icarion48 wrote.
“JONGIN YIXING MY KINGS MY EXO MAIN DANCERS WE LOVE YOUUUU,” @dienafxo noted, along with representative emojis for the two artists.
“Love how yixing is so supportive of his friends~ he makes time to support and do challenge of his friend’s work! He is so precious and kind! Really hope that they get to do challenge with yixing’s songs too because why not?!” @YuXING1012 said.
“I swear I'm mentally unstable, is this a joke? I've been waiting for years to see them dance together. It just happened,” @ladynobody22 commented.
“LAY’S NAME ON THIS ACCOUNT AGAIN?? OUR LEGENDARY MAIN DANCER?? I’M IN TEARS,” @dearEXOheart said.
Lay comments on possible EXO OT9 comeback: “We’re chatting”
Although he's been inactive in group promotions, Lay continues to show love and support for his fellow EXO members in various ways.
Back in January, EXO-Ls were stirred when he left a hopeful comment about a potential reunion during a live broadcast.
“In September or October, see if we can get together with the members."
The host, caught off guard by the hint, asked:
“Getting together?”
The "Give Me A Chance" hitmaker then replied:
“I don’t know, I’m not sure right now, but we’re chatting."

Sehun, EXO’s maknae (youngest member), is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service and is slated to complete it by September.
Meanwhile, fans are buzzing with anticipation over a possible OT9 reunion that could mark Lay’s long-awaited return to the team.
Though he participated in Don’t Fight the Feeling in 2021, he hasn’t officially joined EXO in a full group activity since then. If he reunites with the members, it would not only be his first official comeback in four years but also his first public appearance with the group in eight years.
His last live performance with the group was during the EXO Planet 3 – The EXO’rDIUM tour in Hong Kong back in 2017.
