Yungblud teams up with Aerosmith for a powerful cross-generational track.
The British rock star and the legendary band tease their forthcoming collaboration song, "My Only Angel," via Instagram, giving fans a first listen to the poignant record.
In the short snippet, Yungblud and Steven Tyler are pouring their vocals into the mic inside the booth with the lyrics:
"Will you cry if I call you my angel? Gotta leave, gotta leave, gotta leave you one more time"
After the two rock stars conclude their vocal take, Yungblud kisses Tyler on the cheek, who muttered:
"Nice!"
The "Abyss" hitmaker responds with:
"F***ing great, man!"
Before the teaser ends, Steve Tyler looks straight into the camera and declares:
"Hallelujah!"
Aerosmith also published a 1-minute preview, revealing that both Steven Tyler and Yungblud, whose real name is Dominic Richard Harrison, co-wrote the lyrics of the much-anticipated track.
"My Only Angel" marks the first new music from Aerosmith since the band's 2012 album, Music From Another Dimension!, and their canceled Peace Out tour in 2023, as well as their hiatus following Steven Tyler's vocal injury.
Nonetheless, the acclaimed band made sporadic appearances, including their spotlighted performances at the Video Music Awards last Sept. 7, and at Ozzy Osbourne-Black Sabbath's Back to the Beginning farewell concert in July, where they sang "Walk This Way," "Train Kept A-Rollin'," and "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin.
Yungblud also performed at the show, where he delivered with his gravel-edged vocals a soul-stirring performance of Black Sabbath's 1972 hit, "Changes."
The younger rocker and Aerosmith also first collaborated onstage at the VMAs for a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away on July 22, just weeks after his farewell concert.
The rock stars performed hits by the "Prince of Darkness," such as "Crazy Train, "Mama I'm Coming Home," and "Changes."
Yungblud reflects on releasing Idols: "My last chance"
The hotly anticipated cross-generational collaboration comes after Yungblud released his fourth studio album, Idols, in June.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, the "strawberry lipstick" crooner went candid about fame and the insecurity that it gave him.
“This album was almost like my last chance. If I hadn’t been sure of what I was making, I don’t think there would’ve been a way back for me."
He added:
"I made a f***ing incredible album when I was 19 — 21st Century Liability. I got so much bigger than I ever expected to get. And then the mainstream finds you and you become insecure about things you didn’t know existed."
As his team-up with Aerosmith has been confirmed, the project allows the Yorkshire-born star and the rock icons an opportunity to connect with the olden days of rock and how it changed over time.
“If it sounded like the past, I failed. F**k that. There are so many pastiche rock bands out there. That’s why rock’s been dead for so long."
The "fleabag" singer went on:
"I didn’t want to adhere to a time period… If it felt too specific to this moment, then I failed. And it would cringe me out.”
