SEVENTEEN's Wonwoo is set to begin his mandatory military service on April 3, 2025. It will force the artist to be on a temporary hiatus from group activities.
His agency, Pledis Entertainment, confirmed the news on March 5, 2025. Wonwoo will not be able to participate in any scheduled events after his enlistment. This includes the Tecate Pa’l Norte music festival in Mexico and the SEVENTEEN Japan fan meetings, both of which are scheduled for April.
Wonwoo's managing agency took to its official Weverse page to issue a notice regarding the matter, stating,
"Hello. This is PLEDIS Entertainment. We would like to share the news that WONWOO of SEVENTEEN will be starting his mandatory military service from April 3 this year. As such, he will not be able to attend any of SEVENTEEN’s engagements after his enlistment, including the upcoming Tecate Pa'l Norte 2025 festival and Japan fanmeeting in April."
It continues:
"As announced before, WONWOO will be participating in the “SEVENTEEN in CARAT LAND” concert as scheduled from March 20 to 21 and will be appearing in various pre-recorded content. There will be no official event on the day of his enlistment, and we kindly request that you refrain from visiting the site of his alternative military service."
Addressing the fans, the agency added,
"Please send your heartfelt messages of support for WONWOO through Weverse. We ask for your continued love and support for the artist until his safe and healthy return. We will also stay committed to providing WONWOO with all the necessary support during this time. Thank you."
Before enlisting, Wonwoo will take part in the "SEVENTEEN in CARAT LAND" fan event on March 20-21, 2025. It will give his fans one last chance to see him perform before his service.
He will also appear in various pre-recorded content, which are set to be released while he is away. However, Pledis Entertainment has requested fans to refrain from visiting the enlistment site and instead send their support through Weverse.
SEVENTEEN Wonwoo's military enlistment and its impact
In South Korea, all able-bodied men are required to serve in the military. However, service durations vary based on the branch they are assigned to. According to
- Army – 18 months
- Navy – 20 months
- Air Force – 21 months
Wonwoo will be the second SEVENTEEN member to enlist, following Jeonghan. He began his service in September 2024. More members, including Hoshi and Woozi, are expected to enlist later this year.
While Wonwoo is away, SEVENTEEN will continue group activities with the remaining members. However, fans are taking to social media platforms to express their misery as the artist is set to join mandatory military service. One fan wrote on X:
"We already knew it was going to happen, but it didn’t soften the blow :(( jeon wonwoo, we’ll be waiting for you ! for now, we’ll enjoy everything you prepared before you enlist."
Wonwoo’s final event before enlistment will be CARATLAND, a fan meet in Seoul from March 20-21, 2025.
