At this year’s BET Awards which aired on June 9th, Snoop Dogg, was in attendance to receive one of the shows highest merits, and title of Ultimate Icon, as a result of "decades of groundbreaking contributions to music, entertainment, advocacy, and community impact" according to an official press release on behalf of the show. “The Doggfather” continues to build on his already extensive resume and list of accolades.
Amongst all the people he thanked, the one that stood out most was his wife, Shante Broadus, whom the rapper thanked profusely for her role in his success.
"See, this is why I'm so rock solid. This is why I'm able to deal with all of the things I'm able to deal with. I've got God in my life, and I've got a queen in my life."
Snoop Dogg continued in front of the packed audience,
"No matter what, she held me down, she hold me down, she's always been there for me. She's always been my everything. That's why she's on stage tonight. That's why she's in my life."
It’s clear that Snoop is appreciative of everyone who has helped him reach his current position at the top of the summit, but Shante’s contributions stand out. Snoop Dogg received the honor alongside fellow legends and trailblazers Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, and Kirk Franklin.

Snoop was introduced by his longtime Los Angeles collaborator and friend, Dr. Dre. He continued by praising Snoop Dogg’s proficiency across all fields, labelling his friend as,
“One of the greatest pitchmen ever of all time. Every time I turn on the TV, I see Snoop trying to sell something.”
The iconic “Still Dre” producer then further spoke to Snoop Dogg’s versatility and ability to endear the masses.
"He's a special individual, and I recognize that over 30 years ago, when we first met and worked together, his laidback flow, his charm, his innate charisma, along with his ability to reinvent himself while staying true to his roots, is one of the reasons why I love him. He's one of the only artists I know who could go from being the poster child for making violent hip-hop music to the face of the 2024 Summer Olympics.”
Snoop Dogg then took the stage alongside his wife, Shante, and humbly gave a nod to the other Icon recipients. He gave heartfelt accounts of how they impacted him on a personal level before he also went on to thank "the teachers who taught me how to read and write”, "all of the MCs I've battled along the way," and his "Death Row (records) family".
After thanking Dre and a few others close to him, Snoop then thanked his "life coach," Charlie Wilson, a singer and producer who he believes played a vital role in saving his marriage to Shante.

Ultimately, this was a night of jubilant celebrations, punctuated by Snoop and his fellow Ultimate Icons, who are now forever enshrined with the honor.
