Cardi B dropped her lead single, Imaginary Playerz, on August 15.
Collider has reported that the songstress's second studio album, Am I The Drama, is expected to drop on September 19, marking her first project in seven years. Meanwhile, she dropped her lead single, Imaginary Playerz, on August 15.
While scores have been singing her praises, as pointed out by Hot New Hip Hop, a few have taken issue with the rapper's vocals. Some have characterized it as "overly mid-paced." Here's how one user reacted, for instance:
"Despite having a $1M budget, Cardi B’s lead single “Imaginary Players cracked a measly 336k streams in the first 24 hours. It failed to chart on global Spotify… she’s officially OVER."
The comments didn't end there, though not all of them were grim:
"im sorry im not even being a hater but this is horrible," one user opined.
"AND THATS HOW YOU GIVE A CALM FLEX BEFORE THE STORM," another fan cheered her on.
"THE VISUALS, THE BUDGET, THE RAPPING!!! CARDI YOUR TAKING IT" someone else gushed.
"OMG GIRL YOU WENT HARD ASF AND CLOCKED TF OUTTA THAT PINK WIG LADY & RAH!!! NO WONDER JAY CLEARED THIS, THE BARS ARE STRAIGHT FIRE!!!" a fourth user exclaimed.
See how the rest of X is reacting:
"I’m so confused? The talking isn’t even on beat, and the beat is all over the place," one naysayer penned.
"now i understand why u was scared to drop that album," someone else quipped.
"The more and more I hear it, the more and more I like it. OK Cardi, you got one with this one," another fan weighed in.
"YOU BODIED THIS SAMPLE TOO EASILY OMG !" yet another exclaimed.
Cardi B denies getting into a physical brawl with a security guard: Read More
Cardi B has been raking in far more attention for her appearances in court lately, where she is being sued for allegedly abusing a security guard.
The mom-of-three, 32, has been sued by a woman named Emani Ellis for assault and battery stemming from an alleged physical brawl that took place in 2018.
As reported by Huff Post, during her appearance in court on Wednesday, Cardi B testified that she never touched Ellis, contrary to the latter's claims that she spat on her and scratched her with her fingernails.
The incident allegedly took place outside an obstetrician’s office in Los Angeles, and the hip-hop artist was a few months into her then-unknown pregnancy with her and Offset's third child, daughter Blossom.
“She couldn’t get a scratch from me because I didn’t touch her,” Cardi B said in a Los Angeles County court.
When asked if she was angry, she replied affirmatively and emphatically,
“Yes I was angry!” Because I’m pregnant!” She continued, “And this girl’s about to beat my a**!”
She also acknowledged that their altercation got heated, though it never turned physical on either end.
“She didn’t touch me,” Cardi said. “She was going to touch me, but she didn’t get to touch me.” She continued, noting that Ellis was hounding her with her camera: “I told her, ‘Why are you recording?’” Cardi B testified, “and she said, ’Oh my bad.’ She practically apologized.’" However, things intensified: “As we were arguing she’s backing me, she’s walking into me,” Cardi said.
Ellis, however, claimed that the incident left her traumatised and in need of cosmetic surgery to rectify the scar on her face. She also claims to have lost her job over the incident, and is now reportedly seeking restitution in the form of damages for her medical expenses, compensation for emotional and physical suffering, and lost wages.
Furthermore, Huff Post has pointed out that she is seeking punitive damages, though the exact amount remains unclear. However, Cardi B did reportedly testify on the stand that Ellis is “suing me for $24 million.”
