Pop star Mariah Carey has announced she will drop her new single, “Type Dangerous,” on June 6. This release signals an important step for the artist, suggesting a fresh musical phase many fans have been waiting to hear.
Mariah Carey shared short teaser videos on her social media pages to showcase the style and vibe of her next single.
In one clip, she drives a sleek McLaren 720S Spider while wearing a tank top with the song's name printed on it. She shifts from her 2005 hit “It’s Like That” to an audio file named “T:D_MC16.mp3," giving fans a quick listen to the track’s groovy and lively sound.
In another video, she puts on lipstick as a faint version of the new song plays in the background. A different post shows her striking a confident pose wearing an outfit that features the track’s title in bold letters.
“Type Dangerous” goes beyond just looking cool and having a catchy tune. Fans have noticed clues, like the “MC16” license plate seen in her videos, and believe it hints at her long-awaited 16th studio album arriving soon. Though Carey hasn’t said when the album might drop, these hints have sparked talk that new music might come out in 2025.
“Sounds like her old songs,” a fan wrote on X about the new song.

Mariah Carey teases new music while enjoying the songwriting process
Carey released her last studio album, Caution, back in 2018, but she has stayed active and doesn’t go unnoticed in the music world. She has worked on multiple projects, like a 2024 remix of Ariana Grande’s “Yes, And?” and a future track, “One Heart, One Voice,” featuring both Grande and Barbra Streisand.
Talking to Best magazine earlier this year, Carey shared that she’s been working on new music but didn’t share any dates.
"I have a lot I want to do. I’m busy. I’m writing new material, so there is new music and a new album coming sometime in the future. I’m not sure when. I’m just enjoying the songwriting process," she said.
Mariah Carey also continues to celebrate her older albums. She rereleased The Emancipation of Mimi with extra songs and unheard material to honor its 20th anniversary.
