Karol G drops a new album, Billboard says it might do "well: Read more

The Grammy-winning reggaeton artist announced just this month that she would be dropping her fifth studio album, “Tropicoqueta,” soon. She dominated 2023 with Mañana Será Bonito and Bichota Season, and her latest album features 20 tracks.

Tropicoqueta includes features from several heavyweights, including Manu Chao, Marco Antonio Solis, Feid, Greicy, and more.

“All of the producers on this album were called in with intention," she told Variety in a recent interview. “On ‘Ivonny,’ I really wanted Pharrell to put his touch on a song, but also have it sound like me. When Pharrell did his instrumental, Edgar and I added more of a Latin touch to it.”

According to Billboard, the album, which dropped on June 20, is expected to "stream well," though none of the tracks seem to be immediate breakout hits.

“Tropicoqueta,” due out June 20, is described as “a little piece of us all,” Karol G wrote on Instagram announcing the album. “It started as a wish in August 2023,” she writes in Spanish. “Since then, I’ve been leaving you some clues along the way, and I can say that when I finished it, I did so with a heart full of the love I received in every country I visited…”

She continued,

“Traveling the world with my last album, an album that gave me so much, I kept asking myself the same question: what’s the next step? … what’s next for me? I think it wasn’t about looking further, but rather looking deeper… deeper into myself, into who I really am, into the things I love, into everything that represents me… Going back to my roots, to the songs I grew up listening to, to the sounds that made me fall in love with music… staying in the place where I truly feel grown up because it represents not only who I am, but also those people who have given me the opportunity to be where I am today.”

Billboard has reported that the album's debut likely took a hit due to its lack of physical availability for sale, which is expected to change later in September.
