Stranger Things' star Finn Wolfhard steps into music with solo album 'Happy Birthday', out on June 6

'Stranger Things' and 'Ghostbusters' star Finn Wolfhard is now stepping into the music scene as a solo artist. The actor-musician has announced his debut solo album, Happy Birthday, which is set to release on June 6, 2025, through AWAL.

Finn Wolfhard has previously been a part of two musical projects, Calpurnia and The Aubreys. However, Happy Birthday is his first full-length solo project.

The album was reportedly created from a personal challenge: writing 50 songs by the end of 2022. Finn found a recurring theme in his lyrics, which often taps into identity, nostalgia, childhood memories, loneliness, and anxiety. It had finally shaped the nine-track album.

Per Stereoboard, Finn Wolfhard shared in a statement,

"I ended up writing a lot of terrible stuff, but a few of those songs I was really proud of went to The Aubreys. I started realising a general theme in a lot of the other songs involving my identity, anxieties, nostalgia, childhood and loneliness. All of that was a part of a bigger puzzle. I knew I wanted to make a record, but I didn’t know with which songs."

Along with the album announcement, Wolfhard has also released the lead single, "Choose the Latter," which is an indie-rock track. The song is accompanied by a DIY-style music video, where he performs against a green-screened roller coaster backdrop.

To support his solo debut, Stranger Things' Mike Wheeler will be embarking on a North American tour titled "Objection!" in June 2025. It will kick off in Los Angeles on June 5, 2025, with stops in San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver.

Although Happy Birthday is Wolfhard’s first solo album, his musical journey began years ago. He was the frontman of Calpurnia, a Vancouver-based indie rock band. They disbanded in 2019. Shortly after, he co-founded The Aubreys, releasing an EP (Soda & Pie) in 2020 and a full album (Karaoke Alone) in 2021.

While Finn Wolfhard is now focusing on his music career, his acting schedule remains packed. Stranger Things Season 5, in which he reprises his role as Mike Wheeler, is expected to be released in 2025.
