Taylor Swift is setting the record straight, with her signature humor intact.
During her Monday night stop on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 14-time Grammy winner took a break from promoting her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, to play a round of host Fallon's "rumor roulette."
Taylor Swift not only peeled back the curtain on her friendship, but also debunked what really went down during Selena Gomez's wedding toast.
At the time of the wedding, rumors have it that Swift humorously mentioned Gomez getting hitched before her in her wedding speech. When Fallon guessed that it actually happened, the "Opalite" songstress clarified:
“I did make a speech, but I actually made a point not to mention anything about my engagement. I was like, ‘Don’t mention it, maybe turn [the engagement ring] around.’”
Taylor Swift hinted that she did "some light teasing" in her speech about how Selena Gomez used to dress up in 2008, back when they were in their teens. But the "Actually Romantic" hitmaker clarified that she didn't steal the spotlight from the bride.
“Her favorite outfit back then was a very long tank top, skinny jeans [and] like a tiny little vest. The smallest vest and Chucks. That was her uniform of that year. And mine was that I just always looked like I was late for the cowboy-themed junior prom."
She continued:
"I did not make it about me. I got to see her be the most elegant, gorgeous, not only bride, but just vision that I've ever seen in my life. I've never seen anything so beautiful as her on her wedding day."
It has been proven time and again that Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez's ride-or-die level of friendship isn't one-sided. The newlywed recently took to her Instagram to post a heartfelt message to Swift to celebrate the release of her 12th studio album. She wrote in her caption:
"In honor of SHOWGIRL .. blessed to have you by my side almost 20 years later gator! I love you @taylorswift forever and always"
In her snippets, the Rare Beauty founder features a photo of herself and the Showgirl star in a tight embrace and a screen-grabbed shot of "The Fate of Ophelia," a track off the album. A clip, taken by Swift, also shows Gomez in her veil and wedding dress before a huge mirror with golden edgework.
Taylor Swift clarifies Super Bowl speculation, says there was never an “official offer”
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift also spoke out on the internet rumor that she declined performing at the Super Bowl halftime show because the NFL wouldn't allow her to own the performance footage. The pop star explained:
“No, no, no. Jay-Z has always been very good to me. Our teams are really close. Like, they sometimes will call and say, ‘How does she feel about the Super Bowl?’ And that’s not like an official offer or, like, an official conference room conversation.”
Notably, the Super Bowl halftime show is produced by the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation (founded by Jay-Z). Swift shared with Fallon:
"We’re always able to tell him the truth, which is that, like, I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field. Like, that is violent chess. That is gladiators without swords. That is dangerous. The whole season I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field."
Ultimately, Puerto Rican rapper-singer Bad Bunny was tapped to headline the forthcoming Super Bowl halftime show in February 2026.
