Australian band The Whitlams have officially expanded their 2026 Orchestral '26 tour following strong fan demand. More than 80% of tickets have been sold so far. Multiple shows are also currently sold out. Following this, the band has added new performances in Sydney and Newcastle. The latest trek expansion announcement comes after The Whitlams' recent run of sold-out performances with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It reportedly drew more than 6,000 fans. Frontman Tim Freedman describes these orchestral projects as opportunities to hear their songs "in the middle of a beautiful storm of strings and brass."During this expanded leg, The Whitlams will perform with some of Australia's most beloved symphony orchestras, including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe Whitlams took to their official Instagram page to announce the tour expansion, captioning:"Orchestral ‘26 is 80% sold. Today we have just put two new shows on sale - a matinee in Sydney on Sat 31 Jan, and a second show in Newcastle on Fri 13 March. If you have an inkling to come along next year, get into it quickly. Some kind words from last month’s MSO shows: “Tim Freedman’s dry humour and charm was the perfect buffer to weave between this stunning discography.… The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra injected an already beautiful selection of songs with spine-tingling emotion, this reviewer’s eyes constantly cloudy with tears with every crescendo. Tim Freedman’s unmistakable voice was as strong and powerful as ever, eliciting loud cheers and a standing ovation from an adoring audience.”: Scenstr"The post continued:"“...a rare afternoon of class and drama. With the MSO amplifying the songs, familiar Whitlams tracks felt newly cinematic. Freedman’s words are already mini-movies, but the symphonic backing magnified every twist of drama, swapping rock swagger for orchestral grandeur.”: Noise 11 “The Whitlams’ orchestral show is a tour de force of emotion and classic songs. The two-hour show encapsulates The Whitlams’ remarkable story. Beauty, pathos, humour, tragedy and triumph”: The Music.
