Rapper and singer Tyler, The Creator was a guest on Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning podcast on July 29. During the conversation, he looked back on his That Guy remix song, which he did with Kendrick Lamar. Host Ebro Darden said Tyler did a good job on that beat with the video showing places and freeways in LA. Tyler said,
“Yeah, those are places I grew up. Man, I love it there. I am a LA baby, down. A lot of folks do not be knowing that. They think ni**as grew up in the suburbs. I am from Hawthrone, Inglewood, California.”
Speaking about attending Kendrick Lamar’s The Pop Out concert, Tyler, The Creator said:
“My mom used to…me and her used to ride bikes when I was learning how to ride bikes in the form where that thing was. Are you of are you crazy? You think I'm not about to pull up to that Pop Out and see Kendrick, like they're my boys. So like of course I'm a pop out, no pun intended.”
Tyler said he saw dancer Tommy the Clown at The Pop Out concert and also wanted to click a photo with him but couldn’t get one. He talked about Tommy the Clown and said he had been around for a long time.
He danced at Tyler’s kindergarten graduation. Tommy was known in Los Angeles for helping kids stay out of trouble by getting them involved in dancing. He wore face paint and made a big difference in many people’s lives. Tyler saw him often when he was growing up but never met him back then.
Tyler, The Creator looked back on his time with Louis Vuitton
Laura Stylez asked Tyler, The Creator about working with Louis Vuitton in 2014. Tyler said the whole thing turned out well. It became super popular, and people couldn’t even find the items in stores because they sold out so fast. He felt thankful for how successful it was. Speaking about the Louis Vuitton team, he said:
“By the way, them ni**as at Louis Vuitton are geniuses, bro. Like the team that works in there from the shoe folks to bro, the sections that they have, man like bro they have like five different bag sections, just for the small bag, the big back and these folks are actual geniuses how they work.”
Tyler, The Creator talked about how amazing the Louis Vuitton team was. When he shared an idea, they always said yes and worked hard to make it real. If he showed them a quick drawing of something he imagined, they would create a full model of it in a few hours. He felt surprised and happy about how fast and talented they were. It was a great experience for him.
Tyler, The Creator said he got interested in cool and expensive fashion items like designer shirts and accessories when he was around 14 or 15. He mentioned that even though he didn’t come from a rich family, he worked hard to save money and bought things he liked from popular stores.
