In the age of social media over-reliance and sleuthing, even a simple unfollow can forge a wave of rumors, especially if you’re none other than Miley Cyrus.
On Saturday, May 10, the songstress set the record straight amid fallout speculations after her mom, Tish, supposedly unfollowed her on Instagram. Miley, however, quashed the rumors by heading straight to her Stories to explain the situation.
“I rarely comment on rumors, but my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us. She’s my best friend. Like a lot of moms, she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me — simple, coincidental and uninteresting.”
In her story, Miley also took a moment to talk about her relationship with her father, saying they’ve had their ups and downs, but she’s now focused on family.
“My dad and I have had our challenges over the years. Now, in my 30s, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing. Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family.”
Meanwhile, Tish quickly jumped in to comment, letting fans know it was all just a misunderstanding. With a sparkling heart emoji, she wrote:
“have no idea how that happened but it’s fixed now!"
The confusion came after Billy Ray Cyrus posted a nostalgic video of Miley playing the piano, with a sweet caption about seeing her soon.
“Can’t wait to see this young lady. Crazy how time flies.”
Miley's been open about her family dynamic in the past, like when she appeared on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman and talked about how her parents have shaped her.
“Honestly my mom is my hero. And my father, I'm grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me, he's almost given me this map. And there's a map of what to do, and what not to do. And he's guided me on both.”
Despite the social media slip-ups, it looks like Miley is all about mending fences and focusing on the brighter side.
Miley Cyrus reflects on love and loss in heartfelt new track “More to Lose"
Miley Cyrus continues to tease her upcoming album, Something Beautiful, with her latest single, “More to Lose.”
The song sees Miley reflecting on a past love, filled with longing and regret.
“I stay / When the ecstasy is far away / And I pray / That it’s comin’ ‘round again / And you say it / But I wish it wasn’t true / I knew someday that one would have to choose / I just thought we had more to lose.”
