Twenty One Pilots' Tyler Joseph reflects on how he and Josh Dun try to stay connected to their fans

During an April 2025 interview with Kerrang!, Tyler Joseph reflected on how he and his Twenty One Pilots co-member stay in tune with the concerts and performances they hold as part of their world tour.

Noting that "it's not easy," he said:

“we love this stuff. It’s one of my favourite feelings in the world: coming up with an idea that’s kind of abstract, it’s not grounded in any sort of reality or experience that you’ve had, but then you go, ‘Okay, hold on, how do I reverse engineer this idea to make it work?’ Josh and I really stay extremely involved with the technical side of the show. And I think that’s also why we feel so confident in it, because as we’re playing, we can picture the moving parts that are happening, especially musically.”

But he thinks that's the most important part, as without it, fans would feel disconnected from the artists on stage:

“It’s really important. I feel like you can go to a show and watch an artist onstage and it’s great, but you have this [feeling of], ‘Are they present? Do they really feel like they’re here?’ But we’re interacting with the same doors to get into this building that you’re in – although maybe we didn’t have to spend a bunch of time parking and walking and all the stuff that sucks about coming to a show (laughs). So we always try to find ways to demonstrate that we’re reacting to whatever is being presented to us in a particular city.”
