On Saturday, August 9, Vogue Thailand publicly apologized on X in response to criticism from a previous post that apparently attacked BTS' Jimin. The row originated on August 6, when the magazine's official account disseminated a post including the hashtag #VMAS_DISQUALIFY_JIMIN.
The post rapidly elicited significant backlash from BTS supporters, who sought accountability for what they perceived as an intentional attack.
Soon after the controversy, on August 9, the social media page of Vogue Thailand posted an apology for the erroneous post. The post stated:
“Vogue Thailand sincerely apologizes for the August 6, 2025, incident on their official account on social media platform X, where a post using a hashtag damaged JIMIN of BTS's reputation due to an unintentional error by our team. We admit that this kind of behavior might have stoked more widespread animosity within the online community.”
It further continued as,
“Vogue Thailand would want to use this opportunity to sincerely apologize to JIMIN of BTS and all of fans. We take full responsibility for this oversight and reaffirm our dedication to working more carefully and diligently to prevent similar circumstances in the future.”
Fans of BTS' Jimin refused to accept the apology; rather, the magazine continues to face backlash.
Fans refused to accept Vogue Thailand’s apology in BTS' Jimin’s controversy
While some labeled it as a damaging mistake, others pointed out other instances when Vogue tried to harm the image of other BTS members, namely Jungkook and SUGA.
“YOUR APOLOGY IS NOT ACCEPTED,” a fan said.
“I checked the tweet 3 times, I’m speechless. How can an official page make such an obvious, damaging mistake? Calling it “unintentional” doesn’t undo the harm. That hashtag was not only inappropriate, but outright damaging to Jimin’s name and reputation. This is your reminder.,” stated an admirer.
“this is not your first offense, multiple times you have made malicious posts against BTS so we will not accept the “unintentional error”. SHOW ACCOUNTABILITY. if you don’t have anything good to say to jimin and bts then please just don’t post about them.,” stated an admirer.
Some said that Vogue Thailand can’t brush it off by calling it an error, while others called them unprofessional for their carelessness amid their recent hashtag against BTS’ Jimin. Another fan slammed the publication for a lack of ethics.
“This isn’t something you can brush off as a mere “error”. You publicly disrespected Jimin and fueled targeted hate. As a “professional” outlet, your carelessness is unacceptable.,” stated another admirer.
“it wasn't an unintentional error. while one can have basis for their country's artist but disregarding and saying another deserving artist needs to be disqualify is unprofessional and shows the lack of respect!,” another fan wrote.
“VogueThailand used a hashtag that sought the disqualification of an artist based on obvious and proven MALICIOUS FABRICATIONS by another fanbase. Posting a non-trending hashtag is not unintentional but planned. This BIAS and LACK OF ETHICS is not acceptable.,” another fan stated.
