Hayden Silas Anhedönia, known professionally as Ethel Cain, is releasing her second album Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You, on August 8th, and fans cannot contain their joy. However, they do have one complaint, and it is not centered on just Ethel but artists of today as a whole. Though we are in a sort of pop renaissance with artists releasing bangers, collaborations, and stunning visuals week after week, one thing that hasn't changed much is their vinyls.

Artists release vinyl editions of their albums alongside streaming rights to provide their fans with a comprehensive experience. However, music lovers are growing tired of seeing the same old black pressings (standard black records) and want the vinyl to reflect the artist's individuality. There are singers who have previously broken these barriers, such as Taylor Swift's rainbow-esque collection, Olivia Rodrigo's signature color purple, and now also red, and Melanie Martinez's pink and red, among others. Unfortunately, Cain has not yet joined this list, as her vinyl reveal featured a basic black LP with a grassy image as the center label.

However, she did share a single from the album to give fans a preview of what lies ahead. The artist unveiled "Nettles," featuring lyrics rich in depth such as,

“I can hear them singin’/ ‘To love me is to suffer me,’ and I believe it/ When I lay with you in that auld lang room.”

While talking about the song, she stated,

“Nettles’nand the last track on the record were both written the same week, the very first week I moved into the house in Alabama where I finished Preacher’s Daughter,” Cain further explained. “In similar fashion to Preacher’s Daughter, I wrote what essentially became the beginning and end of the story without realizing it. What were originally just little vignettes of emotion I was feeling at the time ultimately became the tentpoles for a larger narrative.”

Internet reacts to Ethel Cain's vinyl

The internet made Ethel and her team aware of their disappointment regarding the lack of creativity in the record.

One person exclaimed, "CAN ARTISTS DO SOMETHING MORE THAN BLACK VINYLS"
While another joked, "if this vinyl doesn’t come with a blood pact and a handwritten curse i don’t want it"

Though most of Ethel Cain's fans expressed their excitement about her new music.

One fan dramatised,

"mother is giving us another altar to worship at"

One user expressed,

"B*TCHHHHH I thought this was fake for a second"

Another stated,

"She didn’t just name an album — she whispered a Southern ghost story through a screen door at dusk."

The album acts as a sequel to her 2022 debut album, Preacher’s Daughter. Ethel Cain will also embark on a tour to support the album across North America and Europe.
