Addison Rae was snubbed from of 2025 MTV VMAs nominations. The artist's self-titled debut album dropped on June 6, a few days shy of the VMAs eligibility deadline. While the album debuted at No.4 and marked her first entry on the Billboard 200 chart, the artist didn't snag a single nomination. The album had also received a high score of 8.0 from Pitchfork, and The New York Times called it "one of the year's signature pop releases."
While addressing the erasure, Addison, in a recent interview, said,
"It's definitely funny when you feel like you put a lot of work into something and it doesn't get recognized by some place that you feel like you were contributing to."
This year, Lady Gaga leads with 12 nominations, followed by Bruno Mars with 11 and Kendrick Lamar with 10. Sabrina, who is set to perform at the show, has earned eight nominations, while Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Rose, and Billie Eilish are also have their names present in the nomination list.
The 2025 MTV VMAs are set to air live on September 7 from UBS Arena in New York, and will be streaming on MTV, CBS, and Paramount+.
Is Addison Rae performing at the 2025 MTV VMAs despite the snub?
While it's not clear if Addison Rae will hit the stage at the 2025 MTV VMAs, VMA nominee and breakout musician Sombr, during a recent interview with TMZ, allegedly teased Rae's involvement in his performance.
Sombr will be making his awards show debut at the VMAs, and when the news outlet asked if Rae would be involved in his performance, he said,
"You never know! I think she's on tour."
The singer will be embarking on her first-ever headlining tour this fall. Her concert in Berlin, Germany, on September 7, coincides with the VMAs date. While the artist might not be present in real life for a performance, a virtual cameo is still possible.
Addison Rae isn’t the only artist overlooked in this year’s VMA nominations. LISA, who recently released her debut album Alter Ego, was also snubbed, receiving no recognition outside the K-pop category.
