Phish, an American rock band, is currently the talk of the town, as a concertgoer died after being stabbed just outside the band's concert in Virginia on September 19, 2025. The Burlington, Vermont-based rock band, formed in 1983, was performing at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia when the unfortunate incident took place. Besides the person who died, two other concertgoers were injured in the attack as well, which occurred in Hampton Coliseum's parking lot.
Phish consists of Trey Anastasio (frontman and primary lead singer), Page McConnell (keyboardist), Mike Gordon (bassist), and Jon Fishman (drummer). They took to social media, including Instagram, to address the incident and pay tribute to the victims of the horrifying attack.
The renowned ’80s rock band has 345,000 followers on Instagram and 211,000 subscribers on YouTube. They shared a post on their official Instagram page regarding the incident outside their concert in Virginia. Phish's Instagram post read:
"During last night's show, a tragic incident took place in the parking lot outside Hampton Coliseum. There was an altercation behind one of the tents in the unofficial vending area in which someone lost their life and two other people were injured."
The post further added:
"We don't have more information than what has been reported by the police, who called it an isolated incident, but what we do know is upsetting enough. We are deeply saddened by this and our hearts go out to all of those affected."
As cited by Entertainment Weekly, Corporal Shaun Stalnaker of the Hampton Police Division released a statement on September 20, 2025. He said that a quarrel between a group of concertgoers "escalated into a physical altercation," which led to one person being killed and two others injured.
While one of the concertgoers died due to a stab wound, the other two also suffered injuries. One of them is currently under medical supervision in a hospital, while the other, who sustained a laceration, was taken to a local hospital. According to Entertainment Weekly, the brutal attack outside Phish's concert took place close to 9:33 p.m. ET.
The suspect, who reportedly managed to escape at the time, was eventually detained. While authorities described the attack as an "isolated incident," all individuals involved in the matter have been successfully identified.
