Hospitalized last Saturday night, country music veteran Ronnie McDowell was reported to have a possible medical emergency at the Summer Solstice Music Festival in Oley, Pennsylvania. According to WKRN, “three or four songs” into his set, the 75-year-old singer began slurring his words and appeared disoriented. Out of concern for McDowell’s health, his tour manager went up to him and asked if he was fine while leading him off stage.

McDowell reportedly answered, “No,” and shared with his supervisor that he thought he was having a stroke. He was taken immediately to a hospital in Reading, where he stayed on Sunday, undergoing several tests, including an MRI scan, which examined his head due to the symptoms he had presented.

Tyler Dean McDowell, Ronnie McDowell's son, posted on Facebook saying:

"Just wanted to let everyone know -- I made it to Pennsylvania. Ronnie Dean & I are in the room with Dad. He is talking with us and we are waiting for the MRI. As soon as i know more, so will y’all. Love Forever.”

Although the family hasn't publicly shared whether they believe a stroke occurred or not, they have assured fans that McDowell was responsive and able to talk.

Tyler Dean posted a more positive update to cheer people up a few hours after his initial post.

He wrote, “2nd update: Brought dad some Popcorners and a Kombucha (snacks he likes).”
“Ronnie Dean brought his comfy shoes, favorite brush, and Vietnam hat. Dad was very excited about all this — like a kid in a candy store. Figured y'all could use a lil’ levity.”

Supporting fans alongside other country music artists were also there to back him up. Bobby Mackey, the country singer, tweeted, “Memorable show at #americashonkytonk back in the day. Sending healing prayers and thoughts to Ronnie McDowell,” with an image of McDowell performing attached.
