Jennifer Lopez has opened up about what got her through trying times in her life.
The actress, whose divorce from Ben Affleck was finalized earlier this year, sat down for a guest appearance on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast on October 8. At one point, she credited her fans and their support for having gotten through some difficult chapters:
“I can't tell you that in the hardest times of my personal life, how my fans and followers get me through,” she said. “They get you through. They really do. Because you go, ‘I can't let them down. I can't fall right now. I can get through this, and I can show them that I can get through this.”
She also said that the bond she has with her fans is “a real relationship” in her life, adding,
“Even though we don't know each other personally.”
Jennifer Lopez gets candid about the importance of her new film:
Jennifer Lopez's Kiss of the Spider Woman, a musical film that delves into the unique bond between a transgender person and a political revolutionary, also sat down for a conversation with Gayle King on CBS Mornings. Speaking of the film that is due in theatres this Friday, October 10, she said:
"I think it's necessary because the world is in a place where there's a lot of hate ... there's a demonization of like the Latino community, of the queer community....and I think, you know, we need to remind each other that love is the answer - not hate."
Jennifer Lopez added she was "immediately floored" when she finished reading the script, penned by writer-director Bill Condon.
"I thought to myself: this is something I've wanted to do my whole life," she added.
The actress, who plays three versions of the same woman, Ingrid Luna, in the new film, likened her role to the titular role she played in Selena.
"They're the same person, but they're three very different iterations of this woman and they're all very different characters and they have very different looks as well. And that was fun. But I think the essence of who they were was very different, but still the same. And I think that was the challenge," Lopez explained.
According to her, the ethos of the film is about looking past differences.
"When you forget about all those things, if you forget about somebody's political views and you forget, we're all entitled to our opinions about everything and our ways of thinking, and even, you know, from where we grew up and where we're from all over the world. But the truth is, we're all human, we're all the same. And if we can just see that we can allow people to be who they are and love each other anyway," she said.
Jennifer Lopez also made headlines when she reunited with her ex, Ben Affleck, for the red carpet premiere of the film. The latter produced the film, and they posed on the red carpet together. Lopez's twins, Max and Emme, 17, were also by her side to support her.
Ahead of the premiere, she spoke to USA Today about how she was "so excited" to have her mother, Guadalupe, watch the film. She credited her with instilling a love for music and dance in her early on, adding that she now shares the same love with her own kids.
"Both of my kids love singing," Jennifer Lopez shared.
