It has been over two decades since Washington-based post-hardcore/art punk outfit Black Eyes released a full-length album. Their last record, Cough, was dropped in 2004 before the band members went their separate ways. In 2023, they reunited for their first shows in nearly 20 years.

Now in 2025, Black Eyes are officially set to drop Hostile Design, the band's first new album in 21 years, which will be released on October 10, 2025, via Dischord Records. The same label handled their original run. The six-track project is the band's return to their signature music.

Black Eyes took to their official Instagram handle to announce the upcoming album, its first single, and a 2026 tour. Their post read:

"Announcement 3/3: On October 11, Black Eyes will release "Hostile Design" on Dischord Records. The album features six all-new songs, written between 2023-2024, recorded at Tonal Park with Ian Mackaye producing and Don Godwin engineering. "Hostile Design" is available for preorder on Bandcamp now, where you can hear the first single "Pestilence.""

Black Eyes' upcoming album was written between August 2023 and November 2024, following their reunion shows. It was recorded over three days at Tonal Park studios. Ian MacKaye, the Fugazi frontman and Dischord co-founder who produced their first two records, returned as producer for this project.

Alongside the announcement, the band also dropped the lead single "Pestilence." Fans can listen to it below:
