Singer and songwriter Neil Young has a message for President Donald Trump. His statement comes after a recent back-and-forth of remarks between Bruce Springsteen and the President. Per The Independent, Springsteen had called the present government corrupt and incompetent.
Following that, the president took to his Truth Social handle to criticize Springsteen, especially for supporting Joe Biden. Extending his support to Springsteen and Taylor Swift, Neil Young shared a statement on his website titled “TRUMP!!!” He wrote:
“What are you worryin' about man? Bruce and thousands of musicians think you are ruining America. You worry about that instead of the dyin' kids in Gaza. That's your problem. I am not scared of you. Neither are the rest of us. You shut down FEMA when we needed it most. That's your problem Trump.”
Neil Young went on:
“STOP THINKING ABOUT WHAT ROCKERS ARE SAYING. Think about saving America from the mess you made. Taylor Swift is right. So is Bruce. You know how I feel. You are more worried about yourself than AMERICA. Wake up Trump!! Remember what the White House is?”
Neil Young suggested that the president appeared to disregard his duties and focused on the wrong battles. Young urged Republicans to recognize that the situation was out of control and emphasized the need for a proper president, signing off with his name and noting that he wasn't alone in feeling this way.
A look into Trump’s statement about Springsteen and Neil Young’s 2020 letter to the President
In his Truth Social post, Trump criticized Bruce Springsteen for making negative comments about him while in another country. He said he never liked Springsteen, his music, or his political views.
The President also described him as untalented and rude. Trump also blamed him for supporting Joe Biden, whom he called incompetent. The post went on:
“If I wasn’t elected, it would have been GONE by now! Sleepy Joe didn’t have a clue as to what he was doing, but Springsteen is “dumb as a rock,” and couldn’t see what was going on, or could he (which is even worse!)?”
He added:
“This dried out “prune” of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that’s just “standard fare.” Then we’ll all see how it goes for him!”
Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that ever since he said he disliked Taylor Swift, people have stopped finding her attractive. He also questioned how much Kamala Harris might have paid Bruce Springsteen for performing during her presidential campaign and mentioned Beyoncé.
The President said he planned to call for an investigation, suggesting that paying entertainers during a campaign could be a way to secretly buy endorsements, which he said isn’t allowed.
In 2020, Neil Young posted a letter to the president saying he had harmed the country through reckless actions. He wrote,
"You are a disgrace to my country. Bragging about the U.S. economy does not disguise the fact that the numbers today are what you inherited almost four years ago."
He accused Trump of damaging the environment, misusing natural resources, and hurting international relationships.
Neil Young also blamed him for making the climate crisis worse through poor decisions and short-sighted policies. He compared the U.S. to one of the president’s golf courses, saying the latter treated the country like personal property he could ruin without concern for others.
