Jack Antonoff has been credited with producing nine out of the 15 tracks on Doja Cat's upcoming album, Vie.
The New York Times broke the news that the singer-producer, who is a longtime collaborator with fellow giants like Taylor Swift, worked on half of the album with Doja Cat, marking their first joint venture.
News of the same has made its way to X, where it was met with a blend of confusion, anticipation, and snarkiness. A few, however, did point out that he is responsible for producing several great hits with other artists.
Here's how one user reacted, for instance: "what’s with the jack antonoff hate? he’s produced a lot of hits, u fools need to start checking the credits of ur fav songs"
The comments didn't end there.
"And all 9 will be awful," one naysayer penned.
"When will these stans realize Doja and their faves aren't the same? Just because he makes bad songs with your faves doesn't mean he will with a musical chameleon like Doja. Just look at ‘Jealous Type,'" someone else pointed out.
"So basically it’ll flop," another chimed in.
"We will be streaming 6 songs plus jealous type," a fourth user remarked.
See how the rest of X is reacting:
"I for one, appreciate the versatility that she's bringing to her projects. I know she's ready to get back to her roots though, but it's good to explore," one fan asserted.
"Pairing his style with Doja’s versatility makes for a powerful combo," someone else remarked.
"We will be streaming the songs only jack PRODUCED," another fan added.
"Jack Antonoff collecting albums like Infinity Stones at this point," yet another user quipped.
Users were visibly divided, though a large chunk of them were rooting for the Jack Antonoff x Doja Cat collaboration.
Everything we know about Doja Cat's forthcoming album as rapper opens up about her inspiration
Doja Cat, 29, will be debuting her newest album, Vie, on September 23. Ahead of its release, she spoke to The New York Times about her inspiration for the same, crediting her 2023 album Scarlet and its aftermath:
“Not to diminish it, but it was a bit of like, I just need to get this out — it was a massive fart for me,” she told the outlet.
She also said that she didn't feel experimental enough with her past music, prompting her to change that this time around:
“I thought fixing that would entail making music that was more visceral or more emotional or maybe more angry or more sad. And I enjoyed performing it onstage, but it didn’t get me all the way there. So I want to return back to what I know.”
The forthcoming project is her longest yet, and she has already dropped its lead single, Jealous Type. The track has reportedly peaked at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 list as of this writing.
