Drake has reportedly covered his LeBron James tattoo with an image of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s jersey.
The bond between the Passionfruit rapper and James has reportedly turned sour following the latter's public support of Kendrick Lamar, and he was recently spotted with a new tattoo in place of his LeBron tattoo. According to The Sports Rush, the new tattoo may be a nod to their shared Canadian roots and friendship.
The Toronto rapper and NBA legend LeBron James have shared a long-standing friendship, with the rapper even creating the song Forever for James’ documentary More Than a Game. Even after tensions flared between Drake and Lamar, James appeared to maintain a neutral stance, writing on X in April 2024:
“Nothing like 2 heavyweights doing What They Do Best! For the love off of the sport.”
However, as fans thought James would side with the Hotline Bling rapper's side, he was spotted at Lamar’s The Pop Out show on Juneteenth, grooving and singing along to the infamous diss track Not Like Us. Scroll down to find out how things took a turn between him and Drake—born Aubrey Graham—after that.
Drake and LeBron James' friendship and beef history explored:
Following LeBron James' appearance at Lamar's show, Drake seemingly took shots at him in one of his leaked tracks, ‘Fighting Irish Freestyle’:
“Talkin’ ’bout we family, well, I’m not the cousin to visit / God forbid we ever got to tarnish your public image / All that brother talk as if I really discovered a sibling / 6 Degrees, my memory’s retrievin’ our humble beginnings.”
He doubled it down in his recent What Did I Miss?’:
“Last time I looked to my right, you n****s was standing beside me / How can some people I love hang around p***ies who try me? Let’s go.” And “I saw bro went to Pop Out with them / but been d*ck riding gang since ‘Headlines’. You switched on the guys and supported a hater.”
The rapper immortalized James in his “Fighting Irish” jersey on his bicep back in 2018, courtesy of artist Inal Bersekov. He also has tattoos of others, like Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.
He and James first met in 2009, and over the years, the two have publicly declared their support for each other. The rapper has made it to several of the NBA legend's games, and the latter was featured in the music video of Drake’s hit song ‘Forever.'
According to Yard Baker, their friendship also turned into a business venture when they invested in the PGA Tour through the Strategic Sports Group together in 2021. However, it looks like the two have no relationship anymore, and neither of them is addressing their apparent beef.
Only time will tell if Drake and LeBron James mend their bond, though in the meantime, stay tuned to SoapCentral for more.
