American singer Maynard James Keenan shared his thoughts about Ozzy Osbourne ahead of the latter’s upcoming performance. Osbourne and his band, Black Sabbath, is scheduled to perform their final show at the Back to the Beginning concert on July 5, 2025 in England. Keenan’s band, Tool, is also slated to perform at the concert.

According to Billboard, Ozzy Osbourne had his last full set performance on December 31, 2018. As quoted by the media outlet, in a recent conversation on Loudwire Nights, Keenan said:

“I think for me, seeing Ozzy moving around at [the Rock Hall ceremony], the idea of him playing a show at all, if we’re being honest, the conversation about going to do the song was just like, ‘We’ll have this conversation, but, ahh… I don’t know that this [concert] gonna happen.”

Maynard James Keenan explained that he was cautious about committing to the idea of the concert, admitting he wasn’t sure what modern solutions might be needed to get Ozzy Osbourne on stage to perform. He added that they were preparing for the worst while still hoping for the best.

On February 5, 2025, Black Sabbath shared an Instagram post announcing their performance at the concert. The post included Osbourne’s statement, mentioning:

“It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning…. time for me to give back to the place where I was born. How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”

Ozzy Osbourne’s health struggles with Parkinson’s explored

In the Loudwire Nights interview, Maynard James Keenan explained that he wasn’t sure who had initially contacted him and, after seeing Ozzy Osbourne’s condition, he doubted the collaboration would happen. At first, he decided to pass on the offer because he wasn’t confident it would work out.

When the opportunity came around again, he agreed to fly over and record the song with a few people instead of involving the whole band. He mentioned that with Tool, making decisions was rarely simple and usually complicated, so he didn’t expect the project to move forward. However, once everyone agreed, he decided to join in.

Osbourne revealed his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2020. According to BBC, the singer said he had a bad fall after his 2018 show. He added:

“I had to have surgery on my neck, which screwed all my nerves.”

He went on:

“I'm no good with secrets. I cannot walk around with it any more 'cause it's like I'm running out of excuses, you know?”

Recently, Ozzy Osbourne sat down for an interview with SiriusXM, revealing that he underwent heavy training for the upcoming show. He said:

“I haven’t done anything for, this will be seven years, and so I’ve been through all this surgery. It really is like starting from scratch.”

Ozzy Osbourne shared that stamina declines when someone is stuck in bed for a long time. He explained that he had been doing two sets of three-minute walks and weight training to build himself back up.

He said he was pushing himself to keep moving and getting his body active again. Although three minutes might not seem like much to most people, for him, it was a big step after spending so much time recovering from numerous surgeries.
