Lizzo or Melissa Viviane Jefferson's 2022 song, About Damn Time, was used at US President Donald Trump's military parade event in Washington, D.C, on June 14. The parade was held on Trump's birthday and also considered a tribute to the U.S Army's 250th anniversary.
However, the artist is not happy with her song being used at the parade, and took to TikTok to post a video with her reaction. Her post featured a clip of the parade, alongside a video of herself looking disgusted and miming a delete gesture. She captioned the video with:
"Cease & desist."
As per the US army website, the festivities also include,d vendors, kid zones, meet-and-greets with "Army soldiers, NFL players, influencers and celebrities."
Live music included performances by the U.S Army Drill Team, U.S Army Band: Latin Music Ensemble, U.S Army Band: Downrage, DJ Nyla Symone, Scotty Hasting, and country singer, Noah Hicks.
What has Lizzo said about Donald Trump
Artist Lizzo has been vocal about her stance on U.S President Donald Trump. The singer had openly criticized Trump after he got elected, and was in support of his opposition, Kamala Harris. After Trump won the election, Lizzo, took to Instagram on November 7, and posted a video featuring her hands as she writes on a sheet of printer paper:
"Sending LOVE to everyone in the WORLD."
Earlier in April, 2025, Jefferson used her SNL performance to voice her opinion about Trump implementing tarrifs. The artist was dressed in a star-sprangled short shorts, along with a plain blank tank, which had bold letters saying:
"TARRIFIED."
The singer has more versions of the top, and took to Instagram to show them off. One was a red-shirt, which read:
"AMERICA IS TARRIFIED."
And other which said:
"BLACK WOMEN WERE RIGHT."
The singer had been publicly supporting Kamala Harris throughout the elections, and defended Harris after her campaign kicked off against criticis who accused Harris of not doing enough during her term as Vice President. Lizzo in an Instagram video said:
'For everyone saying that Kamala Harris didn't do anything when she was VP, please, for, $5000, do not use Google, tell me what any vice president has ever done during their term that was notable that you noticed."
She went on to question people if they can be "real" and if they can "say our quiet parts out loud, because the discourse is tired."
