Rock group 3 Doors Down was founded in 1996 in the tiny town of Escatawpa. Founded by members Brad Arnold, Matt Roberts, and Todd Harrell, the band went on to add more members as it rose in fame. In the early 2000s, their post-grunge singles brought them widespread acclaim. With Arnold's cancer revelation, they have now canceled their tour, which was set to start on May 15 in Florida.

When they started, Brad Arnold, who played drums and vocals, Matt Roberts, who played lead guitar and backing vocals, and Todd Harrell, who played bass, were the original members of 3 Doors Down. The band got its name from a damaged sign that said "Doors Down" that they witnessed in Foley, Alabama. They added the number three because they were three, thus they became 3 Doors Down.

They made changes in the lineup over time. Brad Arnold, originally the drummer and lead singer, has now solely concentrated on vocals since 2000. He is still a part of the band and to this day is the vocalist. While one of the founding members, Matt Robert, who was the lead guitarist, had health problems, causing him to leave the band in 2012, and later died in 2016 because of a drug overdose 2016. While Todd Harrell, the bassist, was dismissed due to legal issues involving a charge of vehicular manslaughter and several DUI offenses.

With 3 Doors Down expanding, their new members were:

Chris Henderson, who joined the band in 1998 and is still a present member. He is the lead and rhythm guitarist. Drummer Daniel Adair, who is the drummer for Nickelback, played drums from 2002 to 2005 before leaving the band. Whereas now, Greg Upchurch plays the drums since Adair's departure.

Chet Roberts, who was previously the band's guitar tech, now plays rhythm guitar and provides backing vocals. After Harrell left in 2013, Justin Bitoten took over as bassist.

Following the cancer diagnosis of vocalist Brad Arnold, 3 Doors Down formally confirmed the cancellation of their planned tour in early 2025. In a video on YouTube, Arnold thanked fans for their support.

In the emotional video, he revealed:

"Hey everybody, it's Brad from Three Doors Down. I hope you're having a great day today. Um, got some not so good news for you today. And uh I've been sick a couple of weeks ago and then went to the hospital and got it checked out and had actually got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal [cell] carcinoma that had metastasized my lung and uh, and that's uh, it's stage four and that's not real good."

Despite the diagnosis, he displays unshakeable courage and a strong sense of faith. He continues:

"You know what, we serve almighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I am really, sincerely not scared of it at all. But it is going to force us to cancel our tour this summer, and we're sorry for that."

Brad concludes with affection and a reference to one of the band's most meaningful songs before requesting some support:

"And I'd love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get, and I think it's time for me to maybe go listen to It's Not My Time a little bit, right? Thank you guys so much. God loves you. We love you. See ya."
