In the wake of heavy metal pioneer Ozzy Osbourne's untimely demise, fans are looking into the loved ones he now leaves behind.
Ozzy Osbourne died on Tuesday, July 22, at the age of 76. He had been living with Parkinson's disease since 2019, and over the years, it reportedly became difficult for him to perform. As reported by the US Sun, the English singer-songwriter was "surrounded by love" at the time of his demise.
"It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis."
Also known as the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne was married to television personality Sharon Osbourne. They had three children, Jack, Kelly, and Aimee. However, he was also married before that to Thelma Riley, with whom he also had two children: Jessica and Louis. He also adopted her son, Elliot, from a previous relationship. Ozzy Osbourne met his first wife Riley back in 1971 at a nightclub in Birmingham. They married that same year and welcomed their kids shortly after. However, given his struggles with substance and alcohol abuse, his family life took a hit and he later divorced his wife.
In his memoir, I Am Ozzy, he referred to his first marriage as "a terrible mistake," and in his 2011 documentary film God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, which was produced by his son Jack, he admitted to not being able to recall the births of his first two biological children.
“I thought money would buy everything, would fix everything,” he said in the biography, “but money would buy the alcohol and the drugs, and I behaved f-cking badly. The way I treated Thelma, it was wrong. I treated her really badly and the kids, two children. I was a very selfish, self-centered, egotistical guy, and I f-cked around from day one, and that ain’t cool. And my wife just had enough.”
Ozzy met Sharon Osbourne when she was 18 years old and her father was managing Black Sabbath. After Ozzy's departure from the same in 1979, they began dating as she served as the manager of his solo career. Soon, they married and also welcomed three kids of their own.
Jessica, Ozzy Osbourne's oldest child, has long been vocal about her father being an absentee. An actress herself, she said in the 2011 documentary based on her father:
“I don’t remember being put to bed or having a bath by dad or anything like that. I wouldn’t say he was there for us, no, never on sports day, school trip, parents’ evening. He wasn’t like that, no.”
Her brother, Louis, echoed the sentiments in the documentary as well:
Ozzy “was around and he wasn’t [drunk], he was a great father. But that was kind of seldom, really. I just have a lot of memories of him being drunk, random sh-t like driving cars across fields and crashing them in the middle of the night and stuff like that. It’s not good for family life, really.” He went on, expressing anger that his father could not even remember his birthday. “It was all I wanted, but he just couldn’t remember that.”
As for Kelly, she struggled with addiction much like her father. Back in 2021, during an appearance on Red Table Talk, she conceded to relapsing when she had a glass of champagne.
"I was, like, ‘Oh, I can do that, too.’ And then the next day, I had two glasses, and then the day after that, it was bottles,” she said.
However, she has since gone back to being sober, Hollywood Life has reported, and is now keeping her health in check. However, her brother, Jack, has also struggled with the same issues, having served a stint in rehab as a remedial measure.
Ozzy Osbourne now leaves behind his wife, Sharon, his six children, and several grandchildren. As of this writing, Jessica, and Elliot have yet to issue a statement addressing their father's demise.
