Canadian rapper and songwriter Tom MacDonald released a new song, Charlie, honoring political activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead on September 10. Tom has previously spoken about the news and his reaction to the incident. In a self-recorded video posted on his X account on September 11, he said he got the news of Kirk’s death while he was in the gym.

Tom MacDonald sent his prayers for Kirk’s family while backlashing the Democrats, liberals, and 'woke' people. Meanwhile, his song about Charlie Kirk has reached the top position on the US iTunes chart. Reacting to the news of his song performing well, he wrote on X:

“Patriots - you have made “CHARLIE” the #1 song in ALL genres in all of America. All proceeds will go to Charlie’s family or a non-profit/charity of their choice.”

The track explores the life of Kirk and his role as an outspoken individual. Tom includes verses that mention how his ideas would be preached.

For the uninitiated, Tom MacDonald was a professional wrestler born on September 21, 1988. He rose to fame following the launch of his music video, Whiteboy, in 2018. Rolling Stone mentions that he is one of the most notable figures in right-wing protest rap.

He decided to switch his career from wrestling to music in the 2000s, while being inspired by artists like Marilyn Manson and 2Pac. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he brought out his track Coronavirus, which revolved around political and bureaucratic ideals.

In the song, Tom MacDonald honored Charlie Kirk. He mentioned how Kirk was killed at only 31 years old, and that he left behind a wife and three children and that all he tried to do was speak for others. He said Charlie’s death was a message to Americans and warned that those behind it would not stop until they destroyed them. The lyrics also have these lines:

“Dear Charlie, I don't know if you can see us now/But if heaven has a window, I sure hope you'rе looking down/Cause we ain't going quiet, wе gon' scream your name loud/And you're gone, but I swear to God that we gon' make you proud.”

The lyrics mentioned that Charlie Kirk was unfairly killed for sharing his views. He said some people were treating the murder like it was justice, but in reality, a father and husband lost his life.

Tom MacDonald expressed frustration with the hate and division, saying it was hard to live peacefully if people were being killed for disagreeing. He also shared his fear that he could be targeted next, even while doing normal things like grocery shopping.

He promised that Charlie Kirk’s children would grow up knowing he stood for freedom, and hoped Charlie could watch over them from Heaven while his message continued to be heard.

“I’ve only spoken with Charlie a hand full of times…but I’ve cheered him on from a distance for many years. Even in my limited interactions with him…his impact was profound.
