On August 27, Cardi B testified in court in an assault lawsuit involving a security guard. The incident occurred between her and a security guard working for the building in which the rapper’s obstetrician’s office is located. The plaintiff, Emani Ellis, alleges she was assaulted by Cardi B, and the rapper injured her face with a fingernail and spat on her during the reported altercation.
During her second day of testimony in a Los Angeles County Court, Cardi B maintained her innocence while being questioned on the stand by Ellis’ attorney Ron Rosen Janfaza,
“She couldn’t get a scratch from me because I didn’t touch her…She didn’t touch me. She was going to touch me, but she didn’t get to touch me.”
When asked about her state of mind by Ellis’ attorney, Cardi B responded,
“Yes I was angry! Because I’m pregnant! And this girl’s about to beat my a*s!”
As per The Guardian, while the Bodak Yellow artist admits that the pair got into a heated verbal confrontation, she asserted in court that it never devolved into a physical conflict.
The alleged assault involving Cardi B, examined
On the day in question, Cardi B’s doctor had reportedly closed her doors to other patients for the sake of the musician’s privacy, as her pregnancy had not been publicly announced. During her testimony, Cardi shared that she had noticed Ellis was filming her on her phone and was terrified that the news would be outed.
“I told her: ‘Why are you recording?’ And she said: ‘Oh, my bad.’ She practically apologized.”
She continued,
“As we were arguing she’s backing me, she’s walking into me. She is like, security-heavy. She just looks a little, like she could protect the building.”
Cardi B stated she was intimidated by Ellis. Further, about her nails (which supposedly did the bulk of the ‘damage’ to Ellis), the rapper asserted,
“It wasn’t a shape that was harming, it was coffin-shaped. They weren’t sharp.”
According to The Guardian, a witness named Tierra Malcolm also provided testimony in the on-going case. She was working as a receptionist at the obstetrician’s clinic and was responsible for eventually separating the two women. She claimed that she did not witness any physical assault, and her testimony seemed to align with the rapper’s accounts of the incident.
Meanwhile, Ellis is reportedly seeking damages that include compensation for mental and physical suffering, medical expenses, lost wages thanks to her being fired from her job following the incident. Though an exact figure is not yet known, Cardi alleged that Ellis is “suing me for $24m”.
