Cardi B has enlisted the help of the internet in securing funds to bail her mother out of jail.
The rapper took to her X to share a video of herself pleading with her fans to purchase copies of her latest album, I Am Drama.
"I got drama... and you can help a hard working single mother of 3 by purchasing some for ya self," she captioned her video.
In it, Cardi B can be heard saying, while seemingly battling tears:
"Hi guys. So like, one of my parents, they got arrested, and I cannot afford bail because I just paid for my son's baseball uniform. Anyways, I guess you guys will have to help me buy more CDs."
She then showed off her catalogue and nudged fans to head on over to her website or Amazon to purchase units so they could "help her bail her mother out."
Cardi B's video seems to be satire. However, fans are unamused. Scores online are slamming the artist, with many pointing out that she's one of the richest rappers in the industry. Here's how one user reacted, for instance:
"Why are you so desperate. if people wanted to buy your products they would without u begging"
The comments didn't end there:
"Oh girl, you are so unserious and hilarious. I’m loving the album promo this era! We will be buying to help support a single mother!" one fan cheered on.
"a hard working single mother of 3, love it," someone else gushed over the rapper.
"Your queen of promo, that’s clever of you," another opined.
"without drama, the album aint selling we know," a fourth naysayer penned.
See how the rest of X is reacting:
"Is it only me or can i watch this woman all day everyday. she did say she loves to press necks," one fan quipped.
"But this is too funny tho," someone else opined.
"You don’t need help," another pointed out.
"What kind of marketing strategy is this?" yet another questioned.
Users were visibly confused over the video, though a large number did appreciate the PR stunt.
Everything you need to know about Cardi B's Am I The Drama?
Cardi B was recently found not liable in the $24 million lawsuit filed against her for allegedly assaulting a security guard. During the proceedings, she spawned several memes with her facial expressions and responses while on the stand, some of which made it to the album cover of her latest project.
Am I The Drama marks her first full-length album in years, and the rapper dropped a limited-edition, one-time print run “Courtroom Edition” edition of it the day after the 2018 trial ended. Fans can now opt for three CD variants, each with a still from her testimonies during the trial. Each CD version costs $10.00, while the vinyl retails for $39. 98.
Cardi B was being sued by Emani Ellis, a former bodyguard who allegedly accosted her outside an obstetrician's clinic when she was pregnant in 2018. She claimed that, at the time, the rapper assaulted her.
“I swear to God, I will say it in my deathbed: I did not touch that woman. I did not touch that girl, I didn't lay my hands on that girl,” Cardi told reporters outside the courtroom after the verdict was announced. “With that being said, this time around I'm gonna be nice. The next person to try to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I'm going to countersue and I'm gonna make you pay because this is not OK.”
Cardi B’s Am I the Drama? makes its debut on September 19.
