Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, the guitarist and co-founder of Oasis, has announced his decision to step back from the band's comeback tour, citing his prostate cancer diagnosis.
Per BBC, he will sit out of the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne, and Sydney as he undergoes treatment. In a post on Instagram, he revealed he had been diagnosed earlier this year, though he had been responding to his treatments "really well," allowing him to be a "part of this incredible tour."
"I'm really sad to be missing these shows, but I'm feeling good and will be back ready to go in time for South America," the 60-year-old said. He said that he's "really sad to be missing these shows," he is "feeling good and will be back ready to go in time for South America. Have an amazing time if you're going this month and I'll see you back onstage with the band in November," he wrote, signing off as "Bonehead."
Everything we know Arthurs' decision to take a break from Oasis' world tour:
Oasis' official Instagram account reposted Arthurs' statement on its Instagram Stories with the caption:
“Wishing you all the best with your treatment @boneheadspage — we’ll see you back on stage in South America.”
Arthurs was previously diagnosed with tonsil cancer in 2022. At the time, he had to step back from performing with Liam Gallagher at his solo shows.
"Just to let you all know I'm going to be taking a break from playing for a while," he said in an April 2022 statement. "I've been diagnosed with tonsil cancer, but the good news is it's treatable and I'll be starting a course of treatment soon. I'll keep you posted [on] how it's going, I'm gutted I'm missing the gigs with Liam and the band," his statement continued. "Have the best summer and enjoy the gigs if you're going, I'll see you soon xxx."
However, per Sky News and People Magazine, he was eventually given the "all-clear" in September 2022, allowing him to return to performing with Liam.
As for the Manchester band, its next stop following Arthurs' break will be in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 15 and 16. As reported by Deadline, amid rumors of an Oasis reunion tour, Liam Gallagher confirmed in August 2024 that he and his brother Noel were reuniting.
His statement followed a years-long bitter sibling rivalry that stemmed from 2009, when Noel left the band mid-tour.
“It is with some sadness and great relief…I quit Oasis tonight,” Noel wrote in a statement at the time. “People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”
