Fyre Festival, the infamous fraudulent event created by Billy McFarland, is once again back in a new format after McFarland’s attempt at Fyre Festival 2 fell apart when the Isla Mujeres tourism directorate denied that the festival was happening on the island. Now, McFarland has rebranded the festival into a hotel experience titled the Fyre Coral View Pop-Up, with the Fyre Festival website issuing the following statement:

"After news broke a few weeks ago that we were putting the FYRE IP up for sale, we got a message. A small beach resort and the island of Utila, Honduras had seen the headlines—and they had an idea. They have tapped FYRE to bring global attention to this off-the-map gem, programming unforgettable experiences, and simply enjoying life at the edge of the reef."

The statement continues:

"This was a no-brainer for us, so just like that, FYRE has found its way back to the spark that started it all. In early September, FYRE returns to the Caribbean for the FYRE Resort Pop-Up at Coral View Utila—a weeklong escape blending adventure, spontaneity, and paradise."

The statement concluded with;

"What better way to make our return to the Caribbean after 8 years? This isn’t your typical vacation. No cookie-cutter itineraries. No massive cruise docks or tourist traps. This is raw, organic, and unforgettable—exactly what FYRE was always meant to be."

The website goes on to promise a beachfront hotel, adventure sports such as snorkeling and hikes, chef-prepared food, and more. However, the announcement has been met with reactions of skepticism and suspicion, as McFarland and Fyre Festival have been found fraudulent in the past.

This skepticism is exemplified by the reaction quoted below, where a netizen uses a meme that has become a reference to anything shady and suspicious. The meme that the reaction is based on originated from social media as a joke after Diddy’s case surrounding his “freak offs,” as per the Times News website. The joke eventually ballooned into a catchphrase reaction to anything suspicious, as mentioned above:

"Trump appoints Billy McFarland as Secretary of Festivals." one netizen reacted.
"Lmaoo we’re doing this AGAIN??" another netizen reacted.
"Does Utila, Bay Islands know???." one commenter opined.
"are the deluxe cheese sandwiches included?." another netizen opined, stated, referring to the infamous cheese sandwiches of the first edition of the festival.
"Imagine if Billy actually put all of this effort into something productive instead of fake events." one reactor stated.

Fyre Festival saga began in 2017

Fyre Festival’s saga began back in 2017. The original edition was founded by Billy McFarland and Ja Rule and featured promotion by celebrities such as Emily O’Hara Ratajkowski and Hailey Rhode Baldwin, among others.

The festival was scheduled to be held at Norman Cay, a former private island owned by drug kingpin Carlos Lehder Rivas of the Medellín Cartel. The organizers later switched the venue to Great Exuma, with fraudulent posters continuing to promote the event as being held at the former private island.

The festival fell apart after the initial wave of attendees found themselves stranded on the island with disaster relief tents instead of villas, cheese sandwiches instead of gourmet meals, and their luggage tossed into a shipping container. There was theft, not enough toilets, and numerous other horrors.

Following the festival’s collapse, Billy McFarland and other individuals were investigated by the FBI and charged with wire fraud and other crimes. In addition, McFarland, Ja Rule, and others involved faced several lawsuits from the victims of the fraudulent festival.

However, after being released from prison in 2023, McFarland began planning a second edition of the festival, with confirmation of the plan released to the media in late 2024. The festival was officially announced in February 2025, with press releases appearing on its Instagram soon after. However, that edition also fell apart, and now McFarland has announced the aforementioned hotel experience.
