Cardi B released her second studio album, Am I The Drama?, last week after a seven-year hiatus from her first album. The reason behind the long gap is that Cardi was focusing on motherhood, raising her three children: Kulture Ciari Cephus, Wave Set Cephus, and Blossom Belle.
The album consists of 23 songs and an additional bonus track. Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, collaborated with a few artists on some of her tracks. These include Megan Thee Stallion, Tyla, Janet Jackson, Cash Cobain, Lourdiz, Lizzo, Kehlani, Summer Walker, and Selena Gomez.
Almost a week after its release, critics have poured in their thoughts. Metacritic gave Am I The Drama? a 78 out of 100. AnyDecentMusic? scored Cardi B's second studio album a 7.1 out of 10. While Rolling Stone described Cardi's album as:
"massive comeback triumph... fittingly grand return for a queen who never left the throne."
On the other hand, Pitchfork gave Am I The Drama? a 6.6, and fans are not really happy with the score. Keep reading to know what they have to say about it.
Fans react to Cardi B's Am I The Drama? receiving a 6.6 from Pitchfork
Pop Crave took to X to share the score Pitchfork gave Cardi B's second studio album, Am I The Drama? There were mixed reactions from fans, some saying it deserved more than a 6.6, while others celebrated the fact that it is higher than Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday.
One fan (@Believer_inweb3) who believes that numbers do not determine how great an album is, commented:
"Numbers can’t measure the chaos she brings, we know it’s iconic 🫡"
Another fan (@pro6lema) who disagreed with Pitchfork wrote:
"pitchfork rlly said 'mid i guess' when cardi asked if she's the drama... baby that album is pure chaos and deserves at least an 8 for the audacity alone 😈"
One user (@Cee_Dubbbs) who believed the album deserved a 10 posted a GIF of a group of people raising scorecards with the number '10' on it. They simply wrote:
"BOOOOOO! — 10.00"
A Cardi B fan (@grandeunext) compared Am I The Drama? to Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday, said:
"SHOULD’VE BEEN AT LEAST AN 8, BUT STILL HIGHER THAN PORK FRIDAY 2, SO WE STILL WON!!!"
While a Nicki fan (@0xkosi) commented:
"No one's buying this Did y'all know Nicki just released her date ???"
Another fan (@Craftmonster3) who was unhappy with the score wrote:
"They weren't in their right minds 😂.. I can bet on that... I mean wtf is 6.6/10 for an album taking over the charts #1-10 in just one week after release, they better keep that weird score to themselves 😂"
Cardi B's Am I The Drama? has sparked mixed reactions, with critics offering both praise and criticism about her second studio album. Pitchfork's 6.6 score disappointed many fans, but many others don't believe the numbers and celebrated its chart success.
