Clipse, comprised of the hip-hop duo No Malice and Pusha T, released a new single titled "So Be It." The track is a part of their upcoming album, Let God Sort Em Out, scheduled to be released on July 11 on streaming platforms.
While the song quickly caught the attention of Pusha T’s fans, many also noticed a reference to Travis Scott’s Utopia and split with his ex-girlfriend and mother of his kids, Kylie Jenner, through the lines:
"You cried in front of me, you died in front of me/ Calabasas took your bit*h and your pride in front of me/ Heard Utopia had moved right up the street/ And her lip gloss was poppin’, she ain’t need you to eat"
While fans were still wondering if the diss was actually meant for Travis, considering he never directly took his name, or if it was a reference to somebody else, Pusha T confirmed to GQ that it's indeed for Travis Scott.
Why did Pusha T take a dig at Travis Scott?
According to Pusha T’s GQ interview, he took a shot at La Flame (Travis Scott) after Travis unexpectedly showed up at Pharrell’s studio in Paris, where Pusha and No Malice were recording. He additionally interrupted their session to play tracks from Utopia.
While Travis acted friendly and even filmed them listening, he didn’t play Drake’s full verse from “Meltdown,” which later dropped and included a diss aimed at Pharrell. The lyrics aimed at Pharrell read:
"I melt down the chains that I bought from yo’ boss, Give a f*ck about all of that heritage s*it"
After explaining the reason, Pusha added,
"He's done this a lot. He has no picks. He'll do this with anybody. He did it with ‘Sicko Mode’"
The rapper continued,
"He was on the [Rolling Loud] stage like, ‘Play that, play that!’ He don't have no picks, no loyalty to nobody. He'll jump around whatever he feels is hot or cling onto whatever he feels is hot. But you can play those games with those people…We're not in your mix. Keep your mix over there."
DJ Akademiks says Travis Scott didn’t hide Drake’s diss on purpose from Pusha T
Amidst the ongoing tensions, DJ Akademiks kept his own take on his recent livestream. As per Hop New Hip Hop, DJ Akademiks said,
"They say you must be trying to sell an album. You're dissing Travis for no reason. Whenever that song got played for you, Meltdown, Drake did not record on that song at that point."
Travis Scott has yet to respond to the diss or Pusha’s claims publicly. Meanwhile, many fans on social media are backing Pusha, saying his reaction was justified given the situation.
