Radiohead's frontman, Thom Yorke, announced the release of his new single Dialing In on May 28, 2025. He worked on the track with Sam Petts-Davies, and the single will be used as the theme song to Apple TV+'s upcoming series, Smoke. The first episode of the show will be released on June 27, 2025.
Yorke posted a short clip of the song on his official Instagram account, accompanied by a video (possibly from Smoke) of things burning in reverse. The clip is a nod to the show's main theme. Smoke is about:
"an arson investigator begrudgingly teams up with a police detective, their race to stop two arsonists ignites a twisted game of secrets and suspicions."
Yorke captioned his post:
"A new song recorded with @sampettsdavies is featured in the new @appletv series Smoke, starting on 27th June. 'Dialing in' is now available to stream on your least crap streaming service - link in bio".
Thom Yorke's track has also been used as the background music for the official trailer of the Apple TV+ series. Yorke has also released a collaborative album this month (May 9) with Mark Pritchard called Tall Tales.
Praise for Thom Yorke and his new single Dialing In
Dennis Lehane, the executive producer and creator of Smoke, commented on his experience working with Thom Yorke. He said:
"Working with Thom Yorke was as much an honour for me as working with Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese or Richard Price... I’ve somehow been blessed with collaborating with living legends who were also formative influences on my own creative life. Thom is definitely that... In addition, he took a basic concept I gave him and delivered a song that perfectly embodies the show and absolutely crushes."
Fans and netizens have also expressed their love for the Hearing Damage singer on his Instagram post. Have a look at some of the reactions below.
"Thanks for being productive 😍 as a fan, my thirst always quenched" - @shahnaz_soehartono wrote.
Another fan said:
"Thom turning everything into gold" - @nicodavia 23h stated.
One user commented:
"I knew back in '96 you and your band had a sound unmatched. And when you dropped Kid A, I got to remind ppl that I called it. A true genius, Thom. Your solo work is equally as deadly. Thank you. 🤘🏻❤️" - @bl4nk5y expressed.
Thom Yorke talks about his latest collaborative album with Mark Pritchard, Tall Tales
The making of Tall Tales is not something recent, but it started years ago, as Yorke explained. He said:
"Mark sent me a large file of MP3s of ideas during lockdown... There were so many great ones, I knew straight away that I had to drop what I was doing. It felt very much that I had not been anywhere like this before — both as soon as I put my headphones on and started trying to find the vocals, words and sounds, but also, as it progressed, watching Jonathan [Zawada] respond so freely and spontaneously with all his video and artwork ideas."
He concluded by saying:
"It was mental, and I feel lucky to have been involved. Tall Tales is very important to me. I hope people get it, and get to hear it!"
Even though fans were waiting for a studio album from Thom Yorke, the Radiohead lead singer, delivered a haunting new single called Dialing In for Apple TV+'s upcoming miniseries, Smoke. The show will feature Taron Egerton, Jurnee Smollett, John Leguizamo, Rafe Spall, and more familiar faces.
