More details on Taylor Swift's music masters reclamation
On May 30, 2025, Taylor Swift announced that she had reclaimed the music masters of her six albums; she had gotten ultimate control over the first six albums she released at the beginning of her music career. In a press release shared on her official website, Swift explained the experiences she went through in fighting for her music rights.
“All the times I was this close, reaching out for it, only for it to fall through. I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away. But that’s all in the past now… I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs to me. All of my music videos. All the concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs. The memories. The magic. The madness. Every single era. My entire life’s work.”
Taylor’s catalog controversy began in 2019, a year after the “Bad Blood” singer left her first record label, Big Machine. Scooter Braun, with whom Taylor wasn't on good terms, bought the label for $300 million, including the rights to all of Taylor's back catalog of music masters. According to Swift, Scooter Braun’s act was a form of bullying, and she stressed that she wasn't aware of the sale, adding that she was denied the right to buy back her own music.

Following Scooter’s acquisition, Taylor started a re-recording strategy. She remastered her old recordings and added the suffix Taylor's Version to differentiate them from the original. She also encouraged her fans to stream the new music instead of the old to diminish the value of the old recordings.
Swift successfully recorded four Taylor Versions out of the six albums, including Fearless (Taylor’s Version) 2021, Red (Taylor's Version) 2021, Speak Now (Taylor's Version) 2023, and 1989 (Taylor's Version) 2023.
